Since that night, it felt like Kenan was making an effort not to have long conversations with me.
He was just really not trying to say anything beyond the necessary and I was kind of upset... I didn't understand what I did wrong... maybe I was innocent but I didn't understand what was so wrong about that.
Maybe I was shy about talking about my... intimate parts but that didn't make me a bad person.
And after a few weeks of classes, I hadn't really made friends. Some of the guys in class tried asking for my number but, I was painfully shy. The girls didn't really seem to want to associate with me and acted like I was a nuisance when teachers praised me.
I truly felt like an outcast and it sucked.
...I sat in the library after class trying to work on an assignment. It wasn't due till the end of the month but I wanted to be ahead and avoid being chaotic.
"How are you finding the equations," a voice asked me making me look up. A pretty girl that was in a lot of my classes and lectures smiled at me taking out her laptop. "The math is kicking my ass."
"O-oh," I snapped back into reality just glad someone decided to speak to me. "I'm not finding it that hard."
"Yes, because you're a genius," she sighed. "Everyone is jealous like all the smart kids in high school just feel dumb in class with you."
"I don't want to come across as a know-it-all," I mumbled suddenly feeling self-conscious. Maybe that's why people didn't like me...
"If they're intimated by you being smart, that just means they have to get back in the lab. It's not your fault."
That made me feel a bit better. I even giggled at her use of words, it was funny to me.
"I-I'm Aaliyah," I introduced myself feeling super nervous. I tried not to fidget but I just couldn't help it.
"I'm Naomi," she smiled. "Nice to meet you Aaliyah."
We fell into comfortable conversation and I was glad to talk to someone. Especially another girl, I was comfortable with girls even if I didn't have the courage to strike up conversation first.
"You hungry? I know it was tiring teaching me all those equations," she joked. "Food on me."
"Oh don't worry about that," I declined not really wanting anyone to pay for me. My family had a lot of money I'd feel bad. "Just you hanging out with me is fine. I could eat tho."
"Does anyone tell you you're gorgeous when you smile," she commented as we packed up our things. "No wonder the guys in class have been slipping and sliding to talk to you."
"I think you're prettier," I complimented. "I love your makeup and your outfit."
She was so pretty to me. Her brown skin, sleek straight hair and cat eyes just made her look stunning.
"We're both pretty," she corrected linking her arms with mine. We entered the canteen as she made a beeline for a table full of people.
On my way there my eyes briefly caught Kenan's who was surrounded by people as well. I smiled a bit looking down.
"Aaliyah these are my friends," Naomi excitedly introduced me as I smiled at everyone.
"I've seen you around campus," a dark skinned boy with a fade and super pretty smile commented. "I'm Amiri," he introduced biting his lip, "nice to meet you Aaliyah."
One of the girls on the table scoffed rolling her eyes but... I wasn't sure if she was unhappy at me or the guy named Amiri.
I caught Naomi giving the girl a look mouthing at her. The girl rolled her eyes but straightened up.
"Girl sit with Amiri, I'll just go to the toilet and be right back," Naomi rushed out leaving.
The people in the table weren't mean except the one girl I came to find out was called Channel. I don't think she liked me. The other guy named London was super nice too. His twin sister also sat with us was called Paris which was kind of funny. Another girl called Rain was also super sweet which I appreciated.
I liked these group of people.
"You're pretty," Amiri complimented and I thanked him trying to be polite. That seemed to really irritate Channel.
I was just more focused on feeling like I was being watched... but at the same time I didn't want to turn around and look crazy when I was greeted by air.
Amiri was mid reaching towards my face before two arms caged me. A chest pushed up on my back as I felt someone's breath on my ear.
I looked down at the table recognising that wolf hand tattoo anywhere. I had stolen so many glances at it after all.
I felt myself immediately become red from how close he was and how clearly I could smell his perfume.
He smelt amazing...
"What time you coming home?"
His voice came out calm in the same deep tone even thought I felt like I was becoming a mess just from him being so close.
"My last class is at five so I should head home straight away."
"It's getting dark early so don't stay out too late, ok?" I nodded my head showing I understood and he smiled at me in return looking pleased. He gave Amiri a look before straightening up before addressing me again. "I'm going to practise today. Don't try waiting up on the sofa again."
I blushed nodding because I didn't realise he noticed I was waiting up for him. I just wanted to see him come home okay at night... our parents did say to look out for one another.
Once he left with Hakeem, a lot of eyes were on me.
"Girl, you know Kenan?!" Naomi looked at me with wide eyes sitting next to me. Everyone was looking at me expectantly and I felt myself shrinking under their gaze.
"W-we're roomies."
