The three friends were sitting around the campfire. Y/N was on his back looking up at the stars. he was listening to Nigel finish up one of his stories.

Nigel: And then, just when the gator was about to swallow the key, my partner jumped on its back and wrestled with it under the water for a solid five minutes. Just when I thought he was surely dead, his hand breached the surface of the water holding the key triumphantly!

Veronica: That's quite the story.

Y/N: Dude, that was amazing! You're quite the story teller, Nigel.

Nigel: I just do my best at recounting the events. It's the ones I lead who make it all the more memorable.

Y/N looked up at the stars in front of him. The night sky was so clear out here in the jungle. After a moment of thinking, he started chuckling to himself.

Veronica: What's so funny, Robin Hood?

Y/N: Oh, it's nothing. It's just... Back on my world, I used to dream about going on some grand adventure. Seeing exotic places, making new friends, the whole shebang. Now, I feel like I'm truly on one of my own. I'm in a far off land and have made great new friends.

Veronica smiled at hearing him call her a friend. Her smile faded when she began remembering her past. Her train of thought was stopped when Y/N called out to her.

Y/N: What about you Vee?

Veronica: Vee?

Y/N: Yeah, Vee. You know, short for Veronica. My choices were either that or Ver which just sounds wrong.

She laughed at the man's playful antics. In truth, she didn't fully hate the nickname, although she'd have to get used to it.

Veronica: Well, it's certainly the better of the two.

Y/N: So, what about you? You said you were looking for some place to go. Anywhere in particular?

Veronica walked over to Y/N. She was getting better at moving on her injured leg. She laid down next to him and looked up at the stars.

Veronica: I've been on so many adventures. I've seen so many things this world has to offer. But quite frankly, I'm tired of it all. I want somewhere where I can relax without having to look over my shoulder every ten minutes. Without needing to constantly move. Somewhere quiet and simple would be nice for me. Maybe a small town or so. That's what I'd like to see.

Y/N turned his head and smiled at her. Her ideal life sounded peaceful. It may have sounded mundane to him, but it was a life he was used to. She on the other hand never got to live that life.

Veronica: I just... I feel like the universe is trying to punish me for wanting something like that. Everything I do to try and obtain it, to settle down, I just end up getting uprooted.

She was silent for a moment before continuing.

Veronica: I've done some things I'm not proud of. Terrible things. I've tried to repay my debt to the world and leave that part of me behind. But I fear it may not be enough. I may not deserve a life like that.

Y/N: Veronica, hearing all that, makes me think you deserve it even more.

Veronica: What do you mean?

Y/N: You said it yourself. You've tried to repay your debt to the world. Sure, you may have made some unethical choices before. I mean, you were an assassin. It comes with the territory. But that's all in the past. You are a different person now. And you have one thing that sets you apart from other ruthless assassins.
