Mackenzie's POV
------------------------------------------
Tick tock, tick tock. That's all I hear...that's all I see...the clock slowly ticking away. I look over my right shoulder to face the window and watch the trees sway. I feel as if the trees' branches are reaching out to me, as if I put my hand out, they would take me away from this world. "Miss Lovelace, are you ready to join us now?" I look up from my desk and at my history teacher Mr. Wilson, embarrassed. I could feel everyone's eyes glaring at me. "I'm sorry..." I said shyly, looking down at my desk. "Ahm, for our final announcement, we're going on a field trip tomorrow." Mr. Wilson announced, turning towards a stack of papers lying on his desk. "These are the field trip forms your parents need to sign for you to be able to go." He hands out the sheets of paper to everyone.
Zara, one of my classmates, then raises her hand. "Where exactly are we going?" "We're going to ODD World." Mr. Wilson replies. The bell then rang, and class was dismissed. I went to my locker, grabbed my backpack, and ran outside. I met my friends outside. They've got a form as well. "Hey guys, what's up?" I said. Naomi looked up from the book she was reading. "Nothing much I guess." she said in a flat tone. "You guys gonna go on the field trip?" I asked. "Probably not, I'm pretty sure that my parents won't let me go for that long." Naomi said. Lilly looked up from her phone. "I'll ask my mom, but I don't know if I'll be able to go." Lynx then spoke up. "My parents won't really care if I go or not." he said. That's when I heard a voice calling my name.
I whipped my head around to find my mother calling me from her car. "Mackenzie, it's time to go!" my mom shouted. "Coming mom!" I shouted back. "I'll see you guys later." I then turned around and sprinted towards the car. I hopped into the car and put my seatbelt on. My mom drove off and I unzipped my backpack. I took out my red folder which contained my permission slip and homework. I pulled out my homework and closed my folder. I didn't wanna bring up the permission slip yet, I wanted to wait until we got home. I grabbed a pencil from my backpack and started on my homework. I didn't even get to answer the first question, I got distracted and started to doodle on it instead. To my right, I heard a naggy voice go "What's that?"
I glared at my little sister Marcy. Then she said "What?" "MOM! Marcy's bothering me again!" I yelled, annoyed. My mom stopped at a red light and turned around. "Marcy, we've been over this, don't bother your sister." she said to Marcy. she then turned back around and waited for the light to turn green. I turned towards my side of the window and watched the clouds move slowly across the sky. I started to plan a way to convince my parents to let me go on the field trip in my head. I hope they say yes, I don't want to be left behind...

Later that night, at around 9:00, I sat my parents down for a family meeting. "Mom, Dad, today in class, my teacher Mr. Wilson passed out these permission slips for a field trip and i really want to go." I handed them the permission slip. "Alright, where are you going" my dad asked. "I believe he said we were going to ODD World." I replied with a slight awkward smile on my face. "Oh no you don't, you're not going anywhere near that place!" my mom exclaimed, handing me back the permission slip. "But mom, why?" I whined. My mother gave me a stern look. "There have been multiple reports of people going missing in that place, it's not safe." I rolled my eyes. " Dad, please, I want to go so badly." My dad looked at my mom, then back at me. "Sweetheart, I think your mother's right, it's not safe." he said.
"Ugh, fine!" I yelled, clearly upset. I stormed into my room and slammed the door. What were they thinking, telling me I can't go due to a few missing reports?! .....That's when I thought of the most brilliant plan ever. If I can't convince my parents to sign the permission slip, I'll have to sign it myself....I was gonna have to forge their signature. This was kind of a lot for me since I've never done this before, I would never even consider doing something like this EVER.
I started to have second thoughts about it, but in the end, I decided to go through with it and forge the signature. I took a blue pen from my bed and put the permission slip down on my art table, carefully moving the pen to write my mom's signature. I started to sweat as my anxiety began to seep into my thoughts. What if I mess up? What if my teacher realizes it's not my mom's signature and calls her? After about five minutes, I finished writing the forged signature and held it up to my face with a shaky hand. It...It actually looked very convincing. I breathed a sigh of relief, finally being able to relax a bit.
Now comes the hard part of my plan, which was thinking of the perfect excuse to get out of the house to get to the bus tomorrow. It would have to be something believable and something my parents would easily approve of. That's when my mind came up with a lie so convincing, my parents would immediately agree. Tomorrow I will tell them I would be going over to Naomi's house for a few hours. It was the perfect crime. I stuck the permission slip back into my folder and got ready for bed. I turned off my bedroom light and closed my eyes. I wasn't sure if Mr. Wilson would believe the fake signature, but I had to try anyway. But it was only a matter of time before my life would be turned completely upside down.
