♪Another day, another night, passes by just like mine it's, not complicated ♫

Birdie

A new town, a new school, a new home, these are all the things I didn't wish from life to grant me. I was content with coming back home everyday to my parents loving faces as they teased me about a new love interest, or an odd quirk that I couldn't help but have. I was content with the unusual bunch of friends I'd made and the noisy neighbourhood I lived in. Nonetheless, in the blink of an eye I'd lost all of these things that hinted towards my life having even the slightest sense of normality. And now here I was, as far as possible from the place I once called a home, somewhere I never thought I'd end up. I shouldn't be complaining though, at least I wasn't thrown into an orphanage; my Aunt had been kind enough to take me in after my parents passing. As grateful as that should make me though, I still can't stop mourning over the life I once had. I took it for granted, and now I'm trying to hang onto every memory I'd made in it by a fine thread. Whether that was a thread of hope, or a thread of desperation, I didn't know, but I was certain it would be the latter. What kind of hope can one possibly have after such a loss? I had no answer to that. Sighing and mumbling incoherent words under my breath, I dragged my feet out of my aunt's car. It's been a week since I've moved to Missouri and left everything behind, and it's safe to say that I still wasn't fully adapted to the situation.

"Have a good day Birdie," my aunt chirped after me as my intense glare burned holes into her face. Simply though, she smiled at me, cheekily winked, and drove off to work, leaving me to face my fate. Ladies and gentle men, I present you Aunt Elodie, the greatest encouragement boost anyone can ask for. I cussed under my breath, pulled my hood over my head, and started walking towards the school gates, aiming to stay unnoticed by as much people as possible. I was not one to entertain the idea of attention, and being the 'new kid' certainly didn't make that an easy situation to avoid. This definitely was gonna be a long day.

Kill me. My cheeks burned with embarrassment as laughter erupted from basically everyone in the cafeteria. Since my graciousness seemed to exceed satisfactory ratings, as I scanned my surroundings for an empty table, I failed to acknowledge my untied pair of shoe laces, and my leg oh so fluently slipped from underneath me, causing me to make contact with the tiled, marble floors. I scrambled up from the ground as quickly as my feet would allow me, any previous plans of me sitting in the cafeteria long forgotten, and sped out into the school's back garden, wanting to save myself from the embarrassment I've endured only a few seconds ago. When I was sure the coast was clear, I took a few minutes to look around. The backyard was basically empty. There were only a few trees scattered here and there and patches of long overgrown grass coating the area. The only thing out of the ordinary was the boy sitting under the lonely oak tree at the farthest end of the garden. He was clad in a black shirt, black jeans, and black converse, oh and did I mention that he had jet black hair? What a coincidence. Somebody was a little on the dark side of things. The boy was sitting cross- legged with a notepad in his hand, furiously scribbling down on it with his pencil. I could see the black rimmed pair of headphones he had over his ears and the slight bob of his head as he got carried away into whatever it is he was listening to. Despite the loneliness that seemed to engulf him, something installed a general curiosity from within me towards him, and I found my feet carrying me to where he was sitting in fast paced strides, adamant on getting closer to him and observing his seemingly prominent features more closely. I plopped myself down next to him, and inched closer in order to be able to observe what he was doing. For a while I sat staring at him in amazement. His hand never stopped writing as he scribbled more and more of what turned out to be lyrics onto his notepad, his eyes never once leaving the paper, well until now at least.

"Jesus Christ!" He swore, backing away from me as much as possible. Smooth sailing Birdie. In attempt to calm down his outburst, I tried to inch closer to him again.

"Don't come near me," he hissed as his hands came in front of his face to shield him, as if I was gonna... hurt him somehow.

"Whoa, calm down, I'm not gonna hurt you, I just wanna talk," I tried to speak as softy as possible. He removed his hands from in front of his face, and peaked at my figure, mouth opening to speak,

"Well fuck off, I don't wanna talk," he bit his lip ring in what I made out to be frustration. Deciding that being nice wasn't the solution that was gonna win the lottery; I went back to my usual approach.

"Too bad I'm staying right here, next to you," I smirked smugly in his face and leaned against the oak tree, the same way he previously was sitting. The boy grunted in annoyance and slumped in his position. I stayed silent for a few minutes, in hopes of it putting out his temper a little, then I spoke again.

"So what's your name? I'm Birdie," I drawled out, making his head snap towards me.

"I don't care who you are," he grumbled.

"Well, you're gonna have to start to, since we're friends now," I grinned at him cheekily.

"Am I supposed to make you a friendship card or some shit now?" He sarcastically retorted, earning a chuckle from me.

"Well, I wouldn't mind that, but it would be unnecessary," I remarked, earning a glare from him.

"Look you psycho bitch, I don't know you, and I don't want to know you, I've been alone here for as long as I could remember and I'm very content with it staying this way thank you," he snapped, getting up and preparing to swing his bag over his shoulder. I stood up as well and walked towards him, targeting his wrist to grab, but the moment I came near him, he recoiled quickly, his whole body jerking backwards.

"Fuck," he breathed out, flinching.

"I told you not to touch me," he shoved me away in anger.

"S-Sorry," I muttered, confused about his odd behaviour towards skin contact. His eyes softened a little when he heard my tone.

"Look, it's nothing personal; I'm just not good with people okay? And you shouldn't be here anyways; do you want to be at the bottom of the school hierarchy starting from your first day here?" He questioned as softly as he could muster. Without even giving me a chance to reply to his question, he went on with his rant.

"Yeah, that's what I thought, so just leave me alone, pretend like I'm not there, that's what everyone does okay? It's better for you," he finished the whole sentence in one breath. After his breathing calmed down, ignoring all his previous words, I asked him again the question he failed to answer before.

"So what's your name?" I looked at him expectantly, waiting for an answer. He just growled at me though, and with his bag over his shoulder, started walking away from the spot he was standing at.

"You never give up do you?" He grumbled

"Stubborn idiot," he muttered as I followed his footsteps. When he saw me walking behind him, he stopped in his tracks, turned on the heels of his feet and again enlightened me with his famous glare. After a while of just plain tension, he finally decided to speak up,

"Birdie, just do us both a favour and leave me alone, we're not friends and we never will be" he spoke with strong bitterness in his tone, and with those words said, he was gone, just like he was never there.
