Despite being awake well past two in the morning, Y/N awoke with little issues at 7 a.m. She supposed she just got used to doing it ever since Evan started coming to her with his nightmare trouble.

Some nights she would stay up just to make sure he didn't feel guilty for waking her up.

As she got ready for the day, she spared a few glances around the house.

Her father was barging into Michael's room and was starting to remove the bedding,  his son protesting.

Evan was already at the kitchen table, absentmindedly stirring his cereal around in his bowl.

Liz was running around, frantically yelling for her favorite hairbow.

Sighing, Y/N stepped out into the chaos, her little sister tugging at her shirt hem.

"Y/N! My pink bow, it's missing! I don't know where it is!" Tears were beginning to pool at the corners of her green eyes.

"Alright, alright," Y/N brushed the tears away. As much as Elizabeth was spoiled, she still loved her sister. "I think I saw it on one of your teddy bears. Let's go look."

Liz nodded, and dragged her sister to her room. Inside was a white canopy bed, with sheer pink curtains hanging from the ceiling. On the neatly made bed (courtesy of their father) there sat an army of variously sized teddy bears. Quickly scanning the pile, she found the sparkly pink bow sitting on top of a bear's head.

Turning around victoriously, she bent down slightly to pass on the hairbow. "Here it is! Do you want help getting your hair done?"

Liz, now smiling from ear to ear, nodded. She walked to the other side of her room, where a vanity sat, and settled down on the chair.

Faintly smiling, Y/N began on her sister's hair. Deciding on a high ponytail, she scooped up her reddish-blonde hair and got to work. When Y/N finished, she clipped in Liz's beloved hairbow. "There we go! Do you like it?"

Liz turned to look at herself in the mirror, and smiled brightly. "I do! Thank you, Y/N!"

"Of course. Now, you better hurry. Michael had his eyes on the Frosted Flakes last night. He might get to them before you do!"

Gasping, the young girl scrambled to get to the kitchen, now yelling, "Don't touch the Frosted Flakes, Michael! Or.. yeah! Don't touch them!"

Chuckling, Y/N started after her sister.

Most days seemed to be like this. Clara had started to take earlier shifts at the hospitals, so she was out of the house by 6 a.m. As a consequence, Y/N had been left with the responsibilities that Clara had usually done, such as getting Evan to eat and doing Elizabeth's hair.

Clara and William had expressed their sympathy and regret to their oldest daughter, but she waved it off. It wasn't her parents' fault that her younger siblings looked up to her like that.

Besides, it wasn't too bad.

Evan coming in the middle of the night had become common, but Y/N had insomnia. She was awake well into the night before sleep ever found her at all.

Elizabeth now requiring help with hair took a bit to adjust to, but Y/N managed. Liz was spoiled and a handful, but Y/N loved her anyway.

Michael had begun to show his true pre-teen colors. As with any twelve-year-old boy, he had his moments of fits and small rebellions. But Y/N knew her twin brother. He would fight to defend his family, especially her.

William, who was also trying to adjust to his wife's new schedule, was trying to keep his kids on a schedule, which included having family discussions and planning meetings to make sure everyone was on the same page and living the most normal lives they could.

Even now, when it was just a morning before school in October.

When Y/N made sure her younger siblings had eaten and Michael had already stirred up trouble, everyone sat down at the table and they had a family meeting.

"So," William began. "What's going on at school today?"

"We have a geography test today," Y/N said. "It's about Europe." She threw up her hands in the air and shook them. "Enthusiastic jazz hands." She caught the eyes of her two younger siblings and watched as they giggled quietly.

"How do you think you'll do, Y/N, Michael?"

Y/N shrugged, letting her hands drop back into her lap. "I hope I can get at least 15 out of the 20 we studied."

"Michael?"

"I think I'll do alright. I can name at least 10 off the top of my head."

"Wonderful! What about you, Liz?"

Y/N zoned out and gave a look at her twin brother. They may not have been identical, but the looks they gave each other certainly were. Y/N made a mental note to talk to Michael once they made it to their middle school building.

Y/N zoned back into the conversation just in time to hear Evan say, "..paper plate people."

William was smiling. "What kind of paper plate people?"

"We're supposed to make them of our family. So, I'll have to make one of Michael, Y/N, Liz, Mom, and you!" As Evan listed off his family members, he counted on his fingers, looking slightly pleased as he held up five fingers.

While William was smiling and offering encouragement to his youngest, Michael furrowed his brow. "Shouldn't you make one of yourself?"

Y/N sat up. "Ooh, yes! You should make yourself wearing your favorite shirt!"

Evan offered a small smile. "The one with the stripes?"

While Liz was now listing off what she wanted Evan to put on her paper plate doppelganger, William was speaking, saying, "Oh, is that one your favorite? Since it's getting small, I'll order you one that's a bigger size."

Evan's smile grew larger. "That would be awesome!" In celebration, he held up his bear plushie and made it appear like it was cheering.

And just like that, everyone knew the meeting was over, and they all made their way to the family van to head to their separate locations.
