The child had been brought to the hospital because of her condition.

I only had a few minor cuts, so I was able to treat the wounds at home.

I occasionally went to check on the child. I had learned that her name was Mallory Barnes.

I had been walking to the hospital weekly, still checking up on the poor dumpling.

She was laying peacefully on the white sheets, an IV in her arm, and a tube that goes into her nose that helps her breathe.

I was leaning on the railing on the side of her bed when I heard the door creek open.

I turned around to see two people, one male, and one female.

The male had a moustache and black hair. He was wearing a suit and tie. While the lady had vibrant orange hair, though being her natural hair color. She was wearing a floral red dress, bringing out her blood shot green eyes.

She was crying and sniffling.

"A- are you th- the one who- *hicc* s- saved my baby?"

She still had unshed tears in her eyes. I nodded slowly.

She looked delighted, a soft and welcoming smile coming across her face as her crow feet indent at her eyes, her dimples showing.

"W- we want t- to thank you g- greatly fo- for saving h- her!"

She sobbed as her husband hushed her lightly, comforting her. He then took something from the females purse and held it out to me.

It was... A box?

A well decorated one at that.

It looked like a carousel design around the edges. It had glitter over it in certain places such as the horse saddles.

I looked at it carefully before taking it in the palms of my hands.

"This is an old Jack-in-the-box that we found in the attic. It looked very beautiful, and we had no idea how else to repay you" The lady sniffles.

I snapped out of my trance. I looked at the small and fragile lady in front of me.

"Oh- no, that's perfectly fine, I just did what any normal person would do. I'm glad I was able to save your daughter before he..."  I paused for a bit, recalling the memories.

"She... Would've been killed."

The man nodded, and responded with a deep voice:

"Still, you were very brave, and we can't thank you enough. Please accept this gift from us, consider it a token of appreciation."

I looked at the curious box once more, looking on the bottoms of the box. The words laughing-jack-in-the-box engraved in it. Next to the engravement was the name Issac written in sharpie on the box.

Who was Issac?
