Sanemi Shinazugawa the wind hashira, is known for being cruel and unreasonable. And Giyuu Tomioka his lover was not an exception to that cruelness. Sanemi never gave into loving Giyuu as a sign of weakness so he avoided doing it as much as possible until Giyuu gives up. He gives up with trying to show Sanemi any type of affection to the point he avoids Sanemi.
One day Sanemi and Giyuu are walking together after returning from late night portals. Giyuu is eyeing Sanemi's hand as he wants to grab it and he decides fuck it why not. And he grabs it.
Only for it to be yanked away. "Don't touch me, there could be people around." Sanemi said still not looking at Giyuu. Giyuu just looked down, why did it matter? People already knew of their relationship because Sanemi told them.
So why does he avoid Giyuu's touch, he also seems to loath it. They kept walking and that was it. They did not say a word to each other the entire way back to their estates, well Sanemi left to the butterfly mansion so that he could get a wound checked out. He sat on the bed waiting for Shinobu to come. He looked at his hand where Giyuu's touch lingered and his ears burned a bright red.
"Stupid feelings." He thought to himself. With Giyuu he sat in his room in the far corner with his knees into his chest he rested his head on them and looked out the window. "It probably wasn't a good time to do that. We had just gotten off patrol and he was injured. Maybe I could try another time?" Giyuu thought to himself. Ah yes, instead of blaming Sanemi for this he only blamed himself.
And that is how it was every single time. "There could be people around, don't do that." What Sanemi said when Giyuu tried to grab his hand. "Stop." What Sanemi said when Giyuu tried to clean Sanemi's face after eating. "I said Stop!" What Sanemi yelled at Giyuu after Giyuu was trying to check if a wound was okay.
That was all it took. It only took a few more times for Sanemi to resent Giyuu who was supposed to be his lover for him to finally give up.
So he gave up. And he decided the best thing to do is ignore him, avoid trying to make any attempts of affection and avoid his attempts. Easy enough because he barely made any.
So he started to, after patrols Giyuu would just leave, he wouldn't walk with Sanemi at all.
"Tomioka, do you want to get food with me?" Sanemi asked, only to be ignored as Giyuu walked past him. Sanemi stood there confused but brushed it off and went to go eat.
"Can you train with me Tomioka?" Sanemi asked but it didn't matter because Giyuu walked away.
It started to confuse Sanemi. Sanemi wanted Giyuu to try and make attempts of affection again but they never came, and when Sanemi tried to spend time with Giyuu, Giyuu would ignore him and walk away.
One day he and Obanai returned from a mission and were in the butterfly mansion together. Both were injured and they sat on the same bed.
"You two are always creating some more work for me, huh? Can't you just both slay the demon smoothly and quickly, like Tomioka-san without getting hurt?" Shinobu scolded them. Hearing his name was enough to get drowned in his thoughts.
"Why isn't he here? Every time I get hurt he is here, or at least waiting for me outside." Sanemi thought to himself. "Speaking of Tomioka, are you two even still dating?" Obanai asked, looking at Sanemi.
"Yes, why do you care? Sanemi asked, side eyeing Obanai. "Uh, because you guys barely act like a couple. I could at least say that Tomioka-san made attempts in the beginning but now he doesn't even look at you." Shinobu said treating Obanai's wound. "She has a point, I've seen you straight out pull away from him and yell at him, so I'm are just wondering you two are even still together?" Obanai said.
"We are!" Sanemi was annoyed. But then he thought about it. "If you are together how come you never let him even hold your hand? Tomioka-san has the potential to be loving, trust me I've seen it. But you never give in." Shinobu said. "I think he gave up, Kocho. All I've seen is the depressed look on his face recently, he doesn't look the same. He looks hurt." Obanai said.
"What do you mean, hurt? He isn't hurt anywhere?" Sanemi asked, he didn't seem to understand it. "Shinazugawa-san, are you stupid?" Shinobu asked. "A person's heart gets hurt, their feelings get hurt. I know you try and block yours out but some people rely on these feelings to live, and maybe all you words and avoidance of loving Tomioka-san hurt him and he just gave up on trying? Gas that ever crossed your mind?" Shinobu said. Sanemi went quiet for a moment. "Shit!" Sanemi yelled while standing up and pacing back and forth.
"Damn, we all thought Tomioka was going to get out to loosen up but it seems that you just ruined it? So what is your plan now?" Obanai asked. "Do you know where he is at?" Sanemi asked realizing his mistakes. Obanai nodded no. And Shinobu scoffed. "A mission he left this morning." Shinobu said rolling her eyes. "Where?" Sanemi asked.
"Why would I tell you? Though it may not show I have delt with Tomioka-san for many years and I care about his feelings. So tell me why should I let you go to him just so you can 'fix' whatever you did to help you sleep at night?" Shinobu asked glaring at Sanemi. "Because! All those damn times I pushed him away wasn't for my sake but his, I didn't want him seeing me weak and filled with other emotions. So for God's sake please tell me where his mission is!" Sanemi yelled. Shinobu glared at him for a moment and sighed. "A village not to far from here."
Sanemi left the room and ran out of the butterfly mansion. "You think Tomioka is going to forgive him?" Obanai asked. "As much as I hope he doesn't, I know he will and I know Sanemi won't change his cruel ways but a part of me hopes he does. Not just for Tomioka's sake but his also." Shinobu said.
Sanemi ran all the way to this village until sun rise, he kept running and running until he made it to the entrance of the village and he stopped seeing Giyuu standing in front of it. Giyuu's eyes widened seeing Sanemi and then he looked down and tried to walk past him.
Sanemi wasn't going to let him though. He grabbed Giyuu and pulled him into a hug. Giyuu tried his best to push Sanemi away, but Sanemi wouldn't budge one bit. "Please just stop and hear what I have to say!" Sanemi yelled trying to get Giyuu's attention and it worked, Giyuu gave up and just let himself be held by Sanemi.
"I've been a shitty lover haven't I? Ignoring you and pushing you away. I never meant to though. I was just scared of you seeing me vunrable. I thought being your lover meant I had to be this great thing, so that when people asked who I was you'd point to me and I'd be that great thing. But I never considered if you wanted me to be a great thing. And I'm an idiot for not seeing that. So please Giyuu, just don't stop giving me affection, please stop ignoring me it is driving me insane." Sanemi said as he held Giyuu in his arms, the sun was now rising higher into the sky, Giyuu stayed silent for a moment.
"You were already the greatest thing for me." Giyuu said, Sanemi's eyes widened hearing that. "I wanted people to ask me who my lover was and I wanted to point to you, because you are the greatest thing you could be to me. You are strong, funny, an amazing fighter and demon slayer, everything you do is already great. I will admit it hurt and that I did give up trying but hearing you say all this just proves that you are pretty great, because you were willing to understand what you did wrong and move past that, you even ran all this way just to talk to me, if you don't see yourself as great I'm not sure what great is anymore." Giyuu whispered but Sanemi heard it all. He relaxed hearing Giyuu's words and he leaned his head into Giyuu's shoulder and held him tighter. "I'm so sorry." Sanemi said. "I know." Giyuu whispered rubbing his hand on Sanemi's back.
(Ugh no Giyuu leave him and come with me 😭😭😭. I'll give you all the affection you want and I won't push you away 😭😭😭.)
They walked back to the demon slayer head quarters hand in hand. Sanemi brought Giyuu home and even spent the night with him, holding him close and giving him all the affection he wanted.
And it changed from the moment on. When getting off patrol together. Sanemi would wait for Giyuu to catch up and check him for any major wounds and he would always grab Giyuu's hand first.
He could still act cruel to Giyuu
at times but would always make up for it after and apologize. Giyuu just seemed to accept it as Sanemi finally understanding and accepting his emotions. So in the end he guessed it was worth Ignoring Him....
The end.
