(Authors note: Hello! This is gonna have switching POV's between the main 4 characters, Ali, Chase, Nick, and Olivia! If it is a little weird, sorry! They are all in ninth grade, Ali is 14, Chase is 15, Nick is 14, and Olivia is 14. Ali and Chase are dating)
*Ali's POV*
I was watching the news with my parents when they announced that mythical creatures were real. I laughed, but my parents looked like they knew something. They told me to go to bed, but I hid at the top of the stairs listening to their conversation. "Should we tell her? We don't want to put her in danger." My mom said, and it frightened me how scared she sounded. How would I be put in danger? I kept listening. "We'll tell her when the change happens." My dad. What change? Why wouldn't they tell me now? And why were they keeping this secret? Maybe Chase would know.
*Nick's POV*
I saw the news report, I saw my parents panic, and I saw the neighbors come to talk to my parents. What the heck? What was going on? Did it have to do with our family secret that my parents said they would tell me in the morning? I brushed my teeth while all these thoughts spun around in my head. I could tell something was wrong, but I didn't know what it was, and that frustrated me. I would have to talk to my friends tomorrow. I just hoped they would be at school.
*Olivia's POV*
*I felt my mouth drop open in horror. They figured it out. The one thing were meifwas feared had happened. I turned to my parents. "What are we going to do?!" I gasped, afraid. If the government found us, they would do all sorts of horrible experiments to us! My parents looked at me. "Don't worry Olivia, we've got it handled. Go to bed, sweetie." My mom said, ushering me up the stairs. I objected, but my dad gave me his famous rock eyebrow raise, ending the conversation. I sighed, pulling on my PJ's. There was no point in arguing, he had ended that conversation. I climbed into bed, turning off the light. What was there to worry about? My parents would take care of me.
*Chase's POV*
Watched the news story. They found out. They finally did. My adopted parents had no clue I was a dragon, and I had no plans to tell them. It seemed too risky. I had no clue if they would sell me out if I told them or not, but I did NOT want to find out. And I was not planning to. I wondered for a brief moment if I should tell Ali, but decided against it. I had no one to tell, and no one I wanted to tell. It was for the best that no one knew. At least, I hope it was.
*Ali's POV*
I woke up early to get ready to go to school. I decided that Chase, Olivia, and Nick deserved to know the truth about me, even if they shunned me for it. I pulled on my coat. It was colder than it was yesterday, and was beginning to snow out. I began walking to the bus stop, putting my hood over my head as I went. I arrived to see Nick was there already, and boy, he looked pale! "You okay Nick? You look whiter than the snow!" I said, slightly concerned. He turned to me, startled. "Oh, hey Ali...can you and I talk real quick?" I nod, confused. He exhaled, long and hard. "Okay...I didn't know this before, but my parents told me this morning that our family has like this DNA thing that makes it so that we inherit animal traits? And so apparently I am part rabbit or something? And the animals traits show up on my fifteenth birthday? Please don't say I'm crazy and run away screaming!" He said it all in one breath, and my jaw dropped to the ground. "What?! What are you talking about?!" I sputtered. He's crazy! "I don't know! My parents told me this! I sighed. "I'll talk to Chase about this I have no clue what to say anymore."
