"Y/N?...where are you?"

Ajak looked around with a frown, being as quiet as she could and trying to ignore the growing anguish in her chest. Her hands glowed and a pair of yellow energy spheres came out of them, she was ready to attack.

It had been a few months since she found you, or rather, since you ran into her while running from your uncle and your father's hunters. The eternal hadn't meant to, she had simply gone for a walk when the nightmares had become too much for her, she hadn't expected to find her soul mate that night.

To be honest, she wasn't even sure that she should have a soul mate. Sure, humans had those mysterious markings that told them where they were going to be touched by their other halves, but she wasn't human, and there was no reason for her to be connected to you.

But it was what it was and she wasn't about to lose you, not after you managed to awaken an intense and faithful passion that had been dormant for so long. You had made her feel alive and human like she had never been able to. You had become the most important thing to her, even more than the rest of the Eternals, Arishem, or the mission that was granted to her since her creation. None of that mattered to her, not when she was with you.

Of course, she wasn't stupid, she knew that her team wouldn't understand, especially Ikaris. None of them had been marked like her, none knew the feeling of belonging to someone. She had been the exception, and she had to take care of you more than life itself. That was why she had brought you here, to a small cabin in the middle of nowhere. It was quiet, calm, away from everything, a small place that would never attract the attention of humans, much less the Eternals, perfect for you.

Ajak tried to spend as much time with you as she could, bringing you food, clothes, news, and anything else you might need. It's not that you were a prisoner or that she didn't let you out, on the contrary, she loved when you told her that you had explored a little on your own, it was you who was terrified to leave the house.

She could understand it, after everything you had been through at the hands of the people who were supposed to love and protect you, it was normal for you to be alert and suspicious of everything and everyone, but it hurt her to see you so scared. It seemed like you only let your guard down when you were with her.

Of course, she appreciated that, because earning your trust had taken her a long time, even after you found out she was your soul mate, but she didn't want you to live a life full of terror, she wanted you to be happy, even in the moments when she couldn't be by your side. That's why she was terrified that you wouldn't come out to meet her.

"Y/N?" she called out to you again, pushing open the kitchen door.

There was no sign of a fight or that someone had forced their way into the house, but the deathly silence that surrounded her only made her stomach churn with every step she took. You could not have disappeared, but there was a huge possibility that you were not at home, and it was terrifying to think that you could be hurt away from the place.

"Y/N?"

She carefully uploaded the stairs, suddenly too aware of the sound that the old wooden boards made under her weight. It had never bothered her, she didn't even think about it, but at this moment her senses were on maximum alert and even the most subtle of the sounds seemed terrible.

She slowly entered the room where you slept, with her hands yet bright and ready to shoot and the drops of cold sweat starting to roll on her forehead. At first glance, there was nothing out of place. The bed was made, the books were all in their corresponding places on the shelf, there was not a trace of dust, the curtains were open and the warm sunlight entered through the window. Anyone would say it was a simple and ordinary room, with nothing to hide.
