Elena Guerra
I fall straight onto the floor as soon as my alarm wakes me up. Jesus fucking christ. What time is it? I stand up and groan, still tired and not in the slightest motivated for my first day of school he- school? Wait... School starts at 8, no? I'm going to be late on my first day!
I quickly walk over to my closet. What do I wear? Uhh... I quickly grab a black shirt with some blue details, along with a black zip-up, jeans and a blue cap out of my closet and put it on; must say, the fit's definitely scrumptious today. Not nice, not pretty, not gorgeous, not even a fire fit. It's scrumptious.
How much time left? I glance over at my clock. 30 minutes, and school is 20 minutes away by bike. I don't have a car... I'm going to be late.
I brush my hair and straighten it real quick, putting on my makeup straight after that. I quickly brush my teeth before going downstairs. I'll skip breakfast today.
"Hola cariño, llegas tarde.. De todos modos, tengo que ir a trabajar. Buena suerte en tu primer día en la escuela aquí."
I look up and see my mom. She's the literal sweetest, and I smile when she wishes me good luck for my first day of school here. It's always been just me and my mom. I don't have any siblings, and my dad died when I was 6.
"Gracias, mamá. Te quiero. Buena suerte con el trabajo."
I respond, wishing her good luck with her work as well. I glance at my phone, noticing I've got 15 minutes left before school starts. I give my mom a quick peck on her cheek before picking up my bag and walking out the door.
I get on my bike, on my way to school. As expected, I'm 10 minutes late. Good job on your first day, El. Just wonderful. Anyways, I walk into the school building. Seems like the typical American High School to me. Right. Where am I supposed to go? I just walk randomly in one direction, until a girl my age approaches me.
"Hey, are you new here?"
She asks. She sounds all right. She's pretty too, Jesus fuck. I'd let her hit if I was a man; just saying.
"That obvious?"
I question back, and she responds with a chuckle.
"Yeah, I kind of figured. I'm Melissa, by the way. I've heard about you coming here, I believe we have quite a lot classes together. Might be fun!"
I smile at her. "I'm Elena.." I respond, before speaking up once again. "Why aren't you in class?" I don't know why I asked that and I hope she doesn't mind. She doesn't seem to mind though. "I overslept. What class have you got first period?" She asks back, and I stay silent for a while. What do I have first period?
"Uhh..." I begin, "I think it's science." Is it science? Wait, it might be physics though. No, I'm pretty sure it's science.
"Me too, follow me," Melissa then says. I follow her to the classroom we were supposed to be in 15 minutes ago. As soon as we walk into the classroom, all eyes are on me. I totally forgot about that. I'm new. People are going to look at me and have all kinds of assumptions. Ew.
I'm quickly snapped out of my thoughts. "Melissa and.. who are you again? You're late, why?" The teacher speaks, and I mentally scoff. "I overslept." Melissa says, sitting down in an empty seat and gesturing to the empty side next to her. "Name's Elena. I overslept, too." I simply say, going to sit down next to Melissa.
"Elena, Elena..." The teacher mumbles, clearly thinking. "Last name?"
"Guerra. I'm new."
"Oh! Right. Class, this is our new student. She came all the way from Spain, isn't that awesome? Elena, I'll let it slide for now, but don't be late again." He says, before continuing his lesson.
I just nod and look at Melissa. "Is he always like that?" I whisper, and she snickers humorously. "Yeah. But he's all right." She responds, and I smile before deciding to pay attention to his lesson.

It's a few periods later, lunch has just begun.
"Elena, come on, let's go to lunch." Melissa says as soon as she packed her bag. I finish putting my stuff back in my bag and follow her. "I'm not hungry, though. I brought an apple anyway, so I'll be good," I tell her. "Me neither. The food here's gross, you should bring something to school whenever you can, trust me." She gives me a grossed out look, before walking over to a table and sitting down. I sit down next to her and grab my phone.
"Smash or pass?" Melissa says, and I look up.
"Him," she says, nodding her head towards a cute guy sitting with some friends.
"He's cute. Smash." I say, looking around for a new guy. Ladies and gentlemen, I have found a victim. "Smash or pass?" I ask, nodding my head towards a relatively short guy. He's wearing glasses and he's sitting alone, reading a book.
"Pass, what a nerd." Melissa immediately says. "What, because he reads? I like reading." I shrug, but she looks at me weirdly. "Do you really?"
...
"Yes."
...
"I'll just say nothing instead. Good for you, girl." She chuckles, and I smile too before speaking up. "I agree, though. He doesn't look all that."
Melissa looks around for a new guy, and so do I. My eyes land on a tall guy, talking with some friends. Good gracious me.
"Who's that?" I ask, not looking away from mystery guy. That man is fine. "He's hot."
"Mr. Off limits." Melissa immediately snaps me out of my thoughts. "His name is Ace. He's literally slept with half of the world's female population. Yeah, he happens to look good, but he's the biggest player ever and he's the worst. All the girls here drool over him too, which doesn't make it any better."
"A shame." I force my eyes away from him.
"You've got to be aware, Elena. Besides, I've finally managed to make a friend who's not head over heels for him. Let's keep it that way."
