Chapter 6

At training, I go straight to Rue.
"Rue, I'm joining the Careers," I say.
"Do you promise to not let them kill Peeta and I?" she asks shyly.
"Of course."
"Then join the Careers."
"Okay."

I go to the Career pack.
"I'll join," I say.
"We decided that you have to score higher than all of us in the Ratings for you to join us," Clove says.
"I can do that."

This is how we get our Ratings, we have to impress the Game Makers. It's usually a Career that gets the highest Rating and that's usually a ten out of twelve. No one has gotten higher than a ten before. When they call my name, I walk into the room, leaving Peeta alone in the waiting room.

The Game Makers aren't paying attention, I don't think they noticed that I came in. Not even Seneca Crane, the Head Game Maker is watching me. They should of been watching all of the Tributes, were they?
"Katniss Everdeen, District 12," I announce.

The Game Makers look at me and watch. I grab an bow and and an arrow and aim at the target. I release and miss! I hear a few Game Makers laugh. I take another arrow, aim at the target, release and it hits the center! I look at the Game MMakers, to see their reaction, but they're not watching me anymore.

A roasted pig with a red apple in it's mouth is carried to where the Game Makers are and they all go to that. I take another arrow, aim, release and it hits the apple. The Game Makers stare at me, wide eyed.
"Thank you for your consideration," I say and then I take a bow.

I leave without being excused, I know I'm going to get a zero, that score has never been given before. I know that Effie isn't going to like what I did once I tell her. Haymitch might because 'I had guts to do it' or he might be too drunk to care. But he hasn't been drinking lately. Does he think that Peeta and I have a shot at winning?

I don't think so.
But I don't care what Haymitch or Effie think about me. I don't care what anyone thinks about me.

An hour later, Caesar Flickerman announces on the television the Tributes Ratings.
Marvel gets a nine.
Glimmer gets an eight.
Cato gets a ten.
Clove gets a ten.
Thresh gets a ten.
Rue gets a seven.
Peeta gets an eight.

And I get... an eleven.
