~ Chapter 1 | Tales of Pallet Past ~

"I use: Water Gun!"

Gary twisted the cap off of his water bottle and swung it in front of him, water pouring out and splashing Leaf right in the face. She leaped back in an effort to dodge but was unsuccessful, her back against a tree, Gary laughed and pointed after successfully landing his 'attack'.

"You-...Oak I'll get you back for that!" Leaf exclaimed, looking around before spotting a pile of leaves and raising her pointer finger. "Aha!"

She grabbed as many leaves as she could hold in her little arms and tossed them into the air above Gary, proclaiming the use of Leaf Storm in retaliation. Gary swung his hands around to swat the leaves away while Leaf pointed and laughed.

"Man, if only Ash were here to see that look on your face!" she taunted the leaf-covered boy.

"Well if he hadn't overslept maybe he'd be here right now, sometimes I don't understand him, it's like nothing can wake him up!"

Promptly, down the road in Pallet Town, in a small, quaint house, Ash was sound asleep in his bed, his alarm clock already having finished ringing, teetering on the edge of the dresser. All the ruckus Gary and Leaf were causing prompted a little Pichu that had been nearby to scurry away in fear, using the bushes as an escape route so his path could not be tracked.

"Aw man, the Pichu is gone!" one of the children in the group complained.

Professor Samuel Oak, grandfather of Gary and the head of the group that had come from the summer camp he was hosting massaged his temple with his fingers before making his way to the front.

"Gary, Leaf, I thought I told you not to interrupt this session, if you're going to be playing around at least do it somewhere else," he reminded the two young kids, though older by around two years than the kids in the group.

They immediately turned to face the elder, their hands at their sides as they bowed. "Yes Grandpa/Professor."

"Now run along you two," Samuel said, motioning for them to make their way back toward the lab.

Seeing that an opportunity to prove his athleticism had arisen, he tagged Leaf before sprinting off to the lab, proclaiming that the first one there was the winner.

"Why you-...I'll get you, Gary!" Leaf shouted before running off after him.

After escaping through the bush, Pichu found a more calm part of the forest. A group of Butterfree were hanging around a tree and he decided to approach them.

"Pi-Pichu!" he waved.

The Butterfree all turned toward him, tilting their heads before realizing it was just a young Pichu wandering through the woods. They all surrounded him, and the feeling of their wings flapping around him was ticklish enough to send him into a laughing frenzy.

Unfortunately, when that happened, he tended to release electricity from his body. When they saw the sparks from his cheeks, the Butterfree quickly flew away upward to avoid being hit, however, all it resulted in was a small sneeze from Pichu that released a tiny spark of electricity, not even enough to phase a nearby Caterpie. Seeing that this Pichu was practically harmless, they approached him once again, offering him a ride on their wings. Seeing the opportunity to meet new friends, Pichu took it and hopped aboard one of the Butterfree's backs. Together, they flew off into the sky.
