Elon stood right by my side the entire time I confronted my parents. And as expected, they did freak out. Just not quite to the extremes that I thought that they would. Which was good. My mom ended up crying, and my dad was more pissed than the devil would be at judgment day.
After all the chaos was mostly over, I took Elon upstairs and had him help me gather the things that I couldn't part with. I brought up some plastic trash bags and stuffed all my clothes in them. Next, I packed up my shelf-full of books. I took my little figurines, some of which were my three crystal seal sculptures, and the wolf figurines that sat in the two windows of my bedroom. I also brought the fox skull that I found at the thrift store (I like animal bones. They're just cool okay.), along with some of my crystals that I had around my room to keep the good energy in and the bad vibes out. And I brought my conch shell that I inherited from my grandmother. I took my sheepskin that I have over my bed to keep me warm in the winter along with my two stuffed animals that I use for body pillows, of which Elon laughed at the fact that I was still sleeping with them. But I explained to him that I need something to sleep next two because I slept with my mom until I was 10, so I still wasn't used to sleeping on my own. He understood after that. And didn't bring it up again.
I had all sorts of weird stuff that I packed, but not too much because I don't like clutter. And I also took my paintings, 5 houseplants, acoustic guitar, jewelry, laptop, monitor, and keyboard. You know, just those things that are irreplaceable and the valuable stuff of course.
Elon and I put stuff in some boxes that I gnabbed from the garage, and carefully put the fragile stuff into them, and basically just packed stuff up. He helped me load things into my car and thankfully most of everything fit, except for my houseplants which would ride in the back of Elon's Tesla.
After it was official that I had packed all my crap up, I took in a deep breath and sighed. I was finally getting away from here. Despite how terrible it felt, it also felt amazingly good. And honestly I'd never been so happy with what I'd decided on.
"You alright?" Elon asks, as he comes up behind me just as I am about to shut the trunk of my car. I turn around to face him and give him a big smile. "Yeah. I've never felt worse and better all at once," I chuckle. He understood how I felt, and I could tell. We had texted each other for a while last night and he told me more about what it was like when he left South Africa as a teen and how weirdly awful and great it felt.
He wrapped an arm around me and gave me a side hug, "And you're sure this is what you want?" I looked up to meet his warm gaze, "yes," I replied and then turned inward to wrap my arms around his torso and hug him.
After we stood there holding each other for a while, we separated and got in our vehicles. From my house, we drove back to my grandparents house and I got my bike. I also said farewell to them and introduced them to Elon. They were taken aback by my sudden decision to leave, but they seemed to understand more than my parents did, partially because they knew me better and I had mostly grown up in their house because for the longest time of my life my parents both worked and so I would stay with them. However, unlike with my parents, I promised to come back and visit my grandparents. Partially because they were what I considered to be more of my family anyways.
Anyways, by the time I had left home and was ready to leave my grandparents house, it was about 2:00 pm. So there was still plenty of daylight. Elon asked if I wanted to go get the hotel now, or we could go hang out at the 80s portal until dusk. I liked the idea of going to the portal so that's what we did.
We drove our cars to the end of the boulevard to the trailhead and walked down the trail to the portal. We sat on the same log that we had met the day prior and chilled. Elon had an arm around me, and I had mine around him. We just liked being close. He and I both agreed that it felt right.
