I met up with Freddy and his siblings the next morning. I usually walked with them every day.
"Big school. 2,000 students, you might think, "Wow, so many strangers. But not if you think of them as possible future friends. Then it's, 'Wow, so many friends,' Darla ranted. "The principal, her name's Shirley. She's the best."
"Next," BEEP
"This is our security scanner. Like in an airport. It's totally safe." Darla explained. I noticed the uncomfortable look on Billy's face.
"Darla, calm down." I rested my hand on top of her head," It's his first day in the school, not his first day on Earth." I laughed.
"Does she always do this," Billy asked Eugene and Pedro.
"Mmm-hmm," Eugene mumbled, not looking up from his phone.
"Silence makes me uncomfortable," Darla said to Billy
"She's almost never uncomfortable," Eugene said, still looking at his phone. I made my way through security and waited for the others with Freddy. Billy started to walk over to us but he was cut off by Darla.
"Have a good first day, big brother," She said, hugging him. He started to shift away from her and pulled away from the hug.
"Look, you don't have to hug me all the time. We're not actually brother and sister, so," He trailed off looking down at the small girl.
"I'm sorry," She looked down, upset. She turned around and walked to Freddy and I.
"Hey," Freddy said to the little girl. Although he didn't show it very much Freddy is one of the most caring souls. He loves his family and will always look out for them. It was something that made me just adore him. It always warmed my heart.
"Hey," she said back sadly. Freddy wrapped his arm around her and started to walk with her.
"I didn't mean to make her," Billy said regrettably. Freddy heard this and waved him off.
"She just wanted to make you feel welcomed," I made my way over to stand next to me.
"I," He stuttered trying to apologize, "I know, I'm sorry."
"It's okay," I put my hand on his shoulder, "Just, a word of advice? She's really sensitive, so try to think before you speak, and try not to sound like an ass," I laughed humorlessly.
"Okay. Again, I'm really sorry,"
"It's alright." I begin to walk away. "Want me to show you to class or what, Batson?"
"What? Oh, yeah, please," He followed after me.

I led Billy to the Cafeteria after second period and sat down at an empty table. We shared some light conversation. We talked about random things like what our favorite colors are, when our birthdays are, and how terrible our lives have been since childhood. So... ya know, usual small talk. I learned that Billy's mom abandoned him when he was a kid. I felt really bad for him. I mean, I relate. My dad left when he found out my mom was pregnant with me. We got really into the conversation until-
"Flight or invisibility?" Freddy cut in without a single hello.
"Hello to you too, Doofus," I responded right back, ignoring his question he'd asked me millions of times.
"Hey," Freddy replied, but continued his initial question to Billy, "If you could have one superpower, flight or invisibility, what would you pick? I mean, everybody chooses flight. You know why?" Freddy really needs to learn to give people time to answer his questions.
