In the forest primeval,
A School for Good and Evil,
Two towers like twin heads,
One for the pure, one for the wicked,
Try to escape, you'll always fail,
The only way out is through a fairytale.~ ♡ ~
It had been almost four years since the war for Camelot and most of Ellory's classes had already told the in's and out's of the Tale of Sophie and Agatha. She had seen Dean Sophie a few times at the Circus of Talents and admired her for bending the rules of the schools and seemingly being a blend of both Ever and Never despite controlling the School for Evil. But this isn't about Sophie this time, this is about Ellory.
Ellory sat in the clearing with a picnic basket next to her with her lunch inside, she hadn't got the chance to eat yet as she was more invested in studying for her class in the history of fairy tales. Ellory knew who her great grandmother was and her story, but reading it in a textbook made it seem much more surreal than the stories her mother would tell her as a child. She smiled as her pale finger slid across the paper, reading about how the story of Odette was essentially the poster story for the two schools. As a first year, she wondered if her great grandmother was the one that inspired the schools swan insignia but after a few history classes she realized the school was much much older than her great granny Odette.
"Excuse me, are you going to eat that?" A friendly voice broke the Ever girls thoughts. Ellory looked up and saw her best friend, Prince Louis. Louis was the grandson of the Beast from the famous fairytale Beauty and the Beast. He had chesnut hair that went to his broad shoulders, which were accentuated by the shoulder pads in the blue Ever boy uniforms. Ellory grinned and sat up, leaning her back against the wall that stood between the clearing and the blue forest.
"Actually I was Louie, so don't you think about taking my turkey leg." She giggled and placed a piece of pink ribbon in the book as a bookmark and looking inside her basket. Louis gave an exaggerated frown and plopped next to Ellory digging into his basket. "Damn I was banking on those seconds," He chuckled and glanced over at the Never's side of the clearing.
Even though there was no barrier separating the two schools anymore, the Evers and Nevers still barely mingled with each other, preferring to stick to their own.
"You could go ask a 'friendly' Never and maybe they'll give you there's," Ellory giggled, making air quotations around the word 'friendly'. Louis gave another puppy pout and started eating his lunch, Ellory followed him into finally eating hers.
"Do you ever wonder why we never talk to each other?" Ellory asked, referring to Evils' students. "Because these people try to kill us out of graduation, duh." Louis spoke with a mouth full of turkey.
"I know that but I feel like things have changed, haven't they? I mean...Sophie and Agatha weren't in the same school and were still best friends. Their companionship and love proved that both sides can fight together for a better world." She ranted as Louis raised a brow before shaking his head with disagreement. "Just the way things are now El, people return to what's natural." He tried to explain but she knew it was just both sides stubbornness.

Lunch seemed to be over before Ellory could get to her blueberry muffin, a frown pulling her small pink lips down as she shut her basket and put her textbook into her tote bag. "Could you give these to Cordelia?" She asked, handing the bag and basket to Louis.
Cordelia was Ellorys roommate in the Purity tower, she was the granddaughter of Alice from the tale, 'Alice in Wonderland'. Cordelia also had Ever choir with Louis after lunch.
Louis took her things and gave her a smile, "Of course, stay safe in your next class." His smile seemed more worried now as Ellory pulled her light blonde hair into a high ponytail, tied with a baby pink ribbon tied into a bow. "I always am." She gave him a reassured smile and stayed waiting by the blue forest gates for the others in her class.
Surviving fairy tales was her next class, a class mixed with both Ever and Nevers. For the past few weeks they have been together yet separate in their training for safety reasons. Ever boys training with swords and shield with occasional magic, and Ever girls with animal communication and spells.
Good and Evil were separated for these times, as for either side not to come up with a strategy before the Trial by Tale. There was also a rumor that a Never accidentally killed an Ever a few years ago when the Never was messing around. Ellory thought about this and wondered if that Never was in her class.
She shook the dark thoughts away as her forest group leader, Professor Buno, spoke in his booming voice. Her professor always made her feel intimidated during this class, maybe it was the way he spoke, or maybe it was the fact she couldn't tell if the centaur was a professor for good or evil.
"Today is your guys' first day together! We will be preforming mock versions of the upcoming Trial by Tale!" Buno's voice boomed as Ellory scrunched her brows.
She thought that they separated the two to prevent strategy building...maybe the rumor was true? Her brown eyes looked over at the Nevers, grinning and snicking amongst themselves at the thought of hunting down Evers. Ellory looked away from them and quickly back to her centaur professor as he started handing out red handkerchiefs.
"As you all should know, this cloth must be obtained to eliminate your opponent, take it from your opponent and drop it on the ground for them to be eliminated! However if you feel your own life is in danger, do not hesitate to drop it to save yourself." Buno instructed as Ellory grabbed her red handkerchief and tucked it into her uniform's dress pocket.
Buno had the students line up, starting this mock trial. Two students being let into the gates at the same time, with a five minute grace period before they could start going after each other. Typically in the trials, it would be thirty minutes before another pair were let into the blue forest, but for the small class of ten students in total, it was only ten minutes between.
Ellory was fourth in the Ever line, paired with a quiet Never girl who seemed to glare at her. Immediately once in the blue forest Ellory set out to the sleeping willows which weren't too far from the entrance gate. She ran barefoot (having taken off her shoes before entering), crossing the blue brook to make her way to the high coverage area.
This area of the forest was quiet, like the willow tree were watching her. Ellory slowed down to a walk as she tried to find a good tree to climb up and hide out in and to defend. It wasn't till she found the perfect tree to climb she realized it wasn't the trees making her feel like she was being watched.
A yelp escaped her lips as a hand gripped her ankle and pulled her to the ground, landing on her face and biting her lip open. Rough hands flipped her over as she came face to face with her attacker, a Never boy who was second to go in.
"Hello darling," He cooed with a grin, standing above Ellory. Before she tried to sit up the boys weight was on top of her, pinning down her wrists. "Don't...call me darling." She hissed, her finger starting to turn its bright white color to shoot a stun spell at the boy.
Before she could angle her finger to shoot him, his glowing red finger wiped the blood off her lip, the magic burning her lip as he did. "So sorry about that darling," He chuckled and reached into her dress pocket, pulling out the red handkerchief.
Ellory didn't get a chance to get him off before he threw the cloth on the ground and she disappeared into smoke, returning back to the front gate of the blue forest, dazed and a bit pissed.
