Jett watched the Ever girls' form disappear into smoke, a smug look on his face as he stared at where the red handkerchief landed on the muddy forest floor. The thrill of capturing her ignited a spark within him, an unexpected rush that left him hungry for more. As the blue forest embraced him in solitude, Jett couldn't shake the feeling of the Ever trapped underneath him, a complete flip on which side usually wins.

Alone with his thoughts, Jett's mind wandered about his past few years at the School for Evil and how easily he was able to woo Never girls, even if they didn't believe in a 'Never After' at first. But the encounter with the Ever girl made him question if he should challenge himself and win her over.

It would be his own personal victory, following Sophie's example as a Never winning over an Ever.

In the eerie silence of the sleeping willows, Jett strained his ears for any rustle, any hint of other competitors lurking in the shadows. He was determined to practice and win the Trial by Tale for the sake of Evil. Walking along the wet ground, Jett noticed a small pink ribbon not yet dirty from the muddy ground. A small grin curled his pale lips as he knelt down to grab it, putting the ribbon to his nose and embracing the tiny trace of rose that was left on it. Her scent, the beginning of a dangerous fascination.

Jett tucked the ribbon into his cloak pocket, seamlessly blending back into the mock trials. Eliminating a couple more Ever students, he was ambushed and beaten in sword combat by an Ever boy. Smoke puffed around him as his handkerchief was thrown to the forest floor, and he was back at the front gates. His hand shot straight to his pocket, making sure the pink ribbon was there. A breath of relief escaped his lips as his eyes darted over to the Ever girl he had defeated earlier, taking a moment to stare at her dainty figure and pale blonde hair.

The Never boy's stares were interrupted by Morina, a Never girl who Jett used to date briefly during their first year. Morina was short with a black pixie cut and light green skin, quite the opposite of what his eyes were just fixated on.

His dark brown gaze hardened, and his jaw tensed as his attention from her was rudely interrupted.

Jett could admit he was a bit of a player in the School for Evil, messing with the hearts of Never girls and even being praised by Dean Sophie for following in the footsteps she took as a student being a bit of a heartbreaker (even if Sophie's heartbreaks were unintentional). Even though the School for Evil embraced 'Never Afters' and love (or rather lust), Jett's tendencies got him a bit of a reputation among the two schools.

The Never boy tossed his black curls away from his face as his glare pierced his ex. Not that he really considered her his ex, just a brief fling. Morina thought differently.

"Ever boy piss you off?" Her raspy voice taunted Jett as she followed his previous gaze to Ellory. "Oooh, Ever girl got the best of you?" She snickered as Jett rolled his eyes. "Obviously not, I beat her." He spoke like he wanted the conversation over as quick as possible. (Which was true.) "So what's got you so upsetty, jetty?" She teased, the nickname and slight baby voice she had pissing Jett off more.

"Could you, for once..." Jett paused, his thumb and index finger squeezing the bridge of his nose. "Just fuck off?" He finished, his eyes glaring daggers into the Never girl. He wasn't sure why he got so upset at her; it wasn't like he had feelings for the Ever...just a small interest for his own benefit.

She seemed to take the hint, quietly leaving Jett to stare at his Ever obsession...except she was gone.

Where was she?

Ellory greeted Cordelia as she walked into her advanced beautification class, sitting at the desk next to her roommate. "No ribbon today, El?" Cordelia's higher-pitched voice asked as the rest of the Evers shuffled into the candy classroom. Ellory's nimble hand moved to stroke her ponytail, noticing the lack of her signature hair accessory. "I suppose it fell off when I was in the blue forest," Ellory spoke as Professor Anemone took to the front of the room, fixing her wild canary-yellow hair and straightening the tiny wrinkles in her gown.

The thought of losing the accessory didn't bother Ellory all that much, and she soon forgot about it once Professor Anemone began to teach. Ellory lifted the top of the desk up to turn it into a vanity as the professor taught makeup for surviving the woods and still looking beautiful doing it. "If you're going to win, you might as well look great doing it," the older woman spoke.

"Are you nervous for the Trial by Tale?" Cordelia whispered, trying not to disrupt class. "A little...I'm trying not to do too well in class; I'd rather not go in first." Ellory whispered, her grey eyes never leaving the professor. She caught Cordelia nodding as she slid her roommate's baby pink tote and lunch basket over. Ellory noticed and gave Cordelia a small smile as a thank you.

Nights were cold in the malice tower, and the lights around the school were nearly blinding. Jett sat on the cold black onyx that was his dusty windowsill as he looked over the lake at the shimmering glass castle that was The School for Good. His mind raced as he wondered what the little Ever was doing during the night. Perhaps studying or talking with her roommate, maybe taking a hot steam bath in the groom room and making sure her flawless skin stays that way. Jett's mind got lost in the thoughts about her, convincing himself it was to prepare for the Trial by Tale coming up being first in his class.

Thinking about his little obsession grooming herself, he decided to do the same. It wouldn't be fair if Good had all the good looks. Jett made his way down the hall of black onyx to Evil's groom room, the faint smell of fire and ash still lingering after all these years. Jett had a routine he would do in his nightly free time that consisted of weightlifting in full armor followed by turret climbing. The routine was gruesome but kept his muscular figure in check and made sure he stayed at the top of his class.

Afterward, Jett rewarded himself with time in the cauldron's sauna to relax his muscles. Sweat dropped off his pale muscles as he used his time sitting in the heat to think about his strategy for the Trial. Thoughts of sneaking up on Ever boys and 'accidentally' slitting their throats were now interrupted by hunting down and capturing a certain princess. The boy placed his head of black curls in his hands trying to change his thoughts, needing to stay focused for this week, but she just kept appearing in his mind.

Frustrated, Jett left the sauna and changed into sleepwear, a fitted black shirt and loose black sweats, as he made his way back to his dorm. He had a roommate, but neither of them spoke to each other, and Jett didn't bother learning his name.

Lying in the dark room under black satin sheets(Sophie's choice when she became dean) and baby pink ribbon intertwined between pale fingers, Jett began to come up with a plan to get rid of these thoughts of the girl. Even though the idea of making her fall for him seemed great, he couldn't have her messing up the Trial by Tale for him. He took a moment to bring the ribbon to his nose, the rosy scent of the Ever already replaced by Evil's musty smell. Jett grimaced at this and tossed the ribbon to the cold floor. He couldn't have this attachment to her. He just hoped she would be in the Trials.
