5 years later (continued)

When they got home, Esme went up the stairs gently waking Hecate from her nap. The 10 year old still took naps, just not as long as they used to be. Attempting to rub the sleep out of her eyes, she looked up at her mom, "is it time to go trick or treating momma?" Esme let out a small laugh at her daughter, of course she'd completely forget she still had her birthday party to get through before they went out to Trick or Treat. "No sweetheart, we'll go trick or treating soon, we've got to wait till it gets dark outside remember?" Sitting up in the bed, she grinned at her, "That's right, because you and dad sparkle in the sun"

Hecate knew her family was different, she didn't know the full extent but she's definitely seen them sparkle before. She knew that they'd tell her soon though so she wasn't really worried about it.
Esme gently pulled her from her bed, seeing as her daughter was still groggy. Hecate groaned, not wanting to leave the comfort of her bed but got up anyway and followed her mother downstairs. There she found her family sitting in the living room waiting for her. "Hey sweetheart, why don't you come sit down? We wanna have a talk with you", her dad told her, motioning for her to sit down in the empty spot next to Rosalie. She narrowed her eyes a little suspicious, but sat down none the less. The last two times this happened, the first time was her pet fish had died, the second time was also another pet dying but it was her hamster. She hadn't had a pet since so she was a little scared.
"There's something we haven't told you yet, and we're sorry for not telling you sooner. We wanted to wait for you to get a little older before we did but due to recent events, we think now might be a good time," Esme explained to her as gently as she could, afraid to scare the girl away.
"okay... does it have to do with you guys sparkling?" Hecate asked, as she couldn't help but think her run in with the wolves earlier was the reason for this talk. Emmett and Edward both snorted, trying to hold back the laughter that threatened to escape at her question. Rosalie smirked, amused, before slapping both men on the back of their heads, knowing they had to be serious. The two groaned, both holding their heads before muttering an apology. Carlisle and Esme looked upon their children, shaking their heads before getting back to the topic.

"Yes actually part of it does. Now we know you have read all about mythological and supernatural creatures that there is to know about. You know how we look like in the sun right?", Esme asked, reaching out to the open window for the rare Forks sun to shine through on her arm. No matter how many times Hecate saw it, she was always awestruck seeing the glittering diamonds decorate her family's skin. She nodded, waiting for her parents to continue.

"Well that's because we are vampires, or how the tribes would say, Cold Ones. We are immortal beings, who have enhanced hearing, speed, strength, we don't age, and some of us have special powers", Carlisle paused, letting that settle in her mind before continuing, "I know that what you've read about vampires is that they have to drink blood to survive, that is and isn't the case, at least with our family. Our lifestyle is exclusively drinking from animals. We don't drink from humans. That brings me to my next point, most vampires are nomads, and tend to keep away from humanity. We, however, stay in one spot as long as we can, going to school and keeping jobs. There's more to it but for now we'll leave it at that."

Much to the family's relief, Hecate seemed to accept them without any fear. She looked around her family, suddenly getting very excited, "what are your powers?"

And so, they went around the room, telling them their gifts. Carlisle and Esme, although ungifted, were just very hospitable. Rosalie and Emmett, with her enhanced beauty and his unmatched strength. Edward and his mind reading, which made Hecate wish she could figure out how to block him out. Hearing this in her mind, Edward let her know that the rest of the family wanted that as well.

"And then theres Alice and Jasper. Alice has visions of the future, though they're a little more complicated. Jasper can feel and control people's emotions," Edward finished explaining. All Hecate could really do is nod. She was just processing everything before she remembered the earlier encounter.

"So what about the guys that turned into wolves earlier?"

"They're part of the Quileute tribe. As you saw they turn into wolves, they're known as shifters, and they protect the land. They're another one of the few supernatural beings we know about." Carlisle said, before listing the one that they did know about. "There's us, vampires, the shifters, there's always rumors about Fairies but we're pretty sure they're extinct. If there are any left, they're most likely in hiding or the bloodline has slowly going away through the generations. There's one other being, and that's part of what we needed to talk to you about and why we're explaining all of this to you now." Esme took an unnecessary breath in before continuing, "Witches. They're the most powerful beings to exist in our world, even more so than fairies. They're not indestructible, though, that's very important to remember. They're not as rare as the fairies are now, there are actually a few covens around the world. They tend to keep to themselves however, as they have many enemies due to their power."  A weird feeling took over Hecate as she looked at her parents, she wasn't sure why but she didn't like it. "Okay, so what does that have to do with me? Am I not just human??" she asked, slowly starting to panic. Rosalie grabbed her hand, her own icy hands keeping Hecate grounded. They waited for her to take a few breaths to calm down before Esme decided to finally come out with it.

Seeing as this would be the first time any of her children heard about this, she addressed them all as she spoke, "There's no easy way to say this sweetheart, I know that you've had a feeling about it before but your father and I adopted you the day you were born. Your real father was a shifter, like the ones you saw today. Your mother was a witch."

The ten year old's heart rate picked up, tears coming to her eyes, "what do you mean 'was'?? what happened to them?" Hearing her voice crack broke all of their hearts, but she deserved the truth. "They had a lot of enemies honey, it was as if the world was against them from the start. They were both very powerful in their own right, and it ultimately lead to their deaths. The day you were born, I helped your mom give birth to you. After that, they had me take you with me. They knew their fate and wouldn't let you suffer like they would." Carlisle finished, hating the sight of tears streaming down Hecate's face.

Without a word to anyone, she snatched her hand from Rosalie's and ran upstairs to her room, slamming the door shut.
