Adison's P.O.V
I woke up early to the ringing of my phone all morning I couldn't ignore the sound as much as I tried to do so. It was my father calling me urgently, he'd gotten into some debt from a poker game where apparently, he was so wasted, he bet two hundred sixty million dollars. I was shocked and upset because I knew he'd take it out of the money he promised me for my fashion boutique I wanted to open.
I was so wrong, he said that he had made a deal with my father's best friend Adrian Tyler long ago to get me and Cayden his son and my old friend married. He said that Adrian would only help him with this financial dilemma if he got the marriage started this Saturday. today was Wednesday and the clock was ticking. my father threatened to cut me from the will and disown me if I didn't agree to the marriage.
Of course, I agreed because its only for one year even though I haven't seen Cayden since we were leaving middle school. I was kind of excited to see him even if the circumstances are weird because it's been so long. I'm currently getting dressed for the dinner they scheduled for tonight that they last minute decided on. It took me two hours to shop for a dress and get back to my apartment to get started on getting ready.
I'm wearing a black strapless dress that goes down to just above my knee with a slit on my right leg. I'm wearing diamond studded pointed heels with a silver diamond necklace and my hair is blown out with my curls defined. I put on light makeup because I don't really need it and finally put on my dangling diamond earrings. I spray some channel No.5 lightly on my neck and behind my ear before heading to my awaited ride. The town car my dad has had for years.
...
Once I arrived at the dinner my coat was taken, and I headed into my father's office where he asked me to meet him. When I knocked there was a mumble and I assumed it was a 'come in' before going in.
"Hello father." I spoke waiting for him to acknowledge me.
"Adison, come sit we have to talk business." His voice rumbled as he spoke without giving me a second glance.
I waltzed to the seat in front of his desk and waited patiently for him to speak and when he finally looked up, I could tell he was drunk.
"Father you shouldn't drink before a business dinner." I scolded him before he could speak.
"You mind your business and listen to what I have to say!" He raised his voice before continuing. "Your dress is a little short don't you think? They may change their minds." He looks at me disapprovingly causing me to roll my eyes.
This isn't your generation father; women wear far shorter than this to anything now." I say begrudgingly.
As he's about to chastise me about my clothes some more the doorbell sounds and not long after Mrs. Lovey can be heard greeting our guests causing internal panic. I suddenly feel self-conscious and nervous. My father gives me a nod before standing telling me that he is now sobered up and ready to deal with this dinner.
As we are both heading downstairs, I chew slightly on my lip and mentally stop myself, so I don't mess up my lip gloss. I let my father go in and greet the guests first excusing myself to the restroom so I can calm my slamming heart before going into the lion's den. I speed walk towards the bathroom and when I get in there a take a few needed deep breaths before reapplying my lip gloss.
I open up the restroom door and head downstairs and head inside instantly finding his eyes. Oh, those eyes... I can tell the difference in him instantly he's more serious and his features are sharper. those childlike chubby cheeks aren't there he's not the same scrawny kid he used to be.
