Cayden's P.O.V
I decide I should walk up to them and play the jealous fiancé. But when I'm finally close to them and can hear their conversation, I actually am jealous. They clearly know one another, and I can't help what I do next, I clear my throat and wait to be noticed.
"Oh, hey Cayden this is my old boyfriend Jayden. Jayden this is my fiancé Cayden." She says with a small smile, and I feel a proudness in my chest from her calling me her fiancé in front of him for some reason.
I stick my hand out for him to shake but not before wrapping my other arm around Adison and smiling at him.
"Nice to meet you Jaylen." I say purposely messing up his name.
"It's Jayden." He corrects. "Nice to meet you as well."
Then before it can become intense Adison's soft voice speaks up again making me look at her wildly and giving Jayden a reason to smirk at me.
"I've invited Jayden to our wedding Saturday that is if you are okay with it dear." Adison challenged and I bit my tongue to say something I shouldn't.
"No, I'm sorry remember the guest list was full? We can't add any extra guests." I say acting like I even know who's coming besides my family and a few people that I do business with.
"Oh, okay I'm sorry Jayden I guess it slipped my mind." Adison says seeming a bit embarrassed.
"It's quite alright I'm not sure I was free yet anyways." He insists.
After a while he finally goes away and I'm happy to be alone with Adison to talk with her and ask why she's even talking to her ex. But before I can speak up, she does, and I am caught off guard.
"You know you didn't have anything to worry about with him. He and I ended on bad terms a long time ago." She freely admits to me.
"I'm not worried about you if there's to be a wedding, I don't need the press getting ahold of you all alone talking to someone you had intimate affection for in the past." I grind out annoyed that she's just thinking of herself.
She doesn't even reply to me she just walks over to my mother and my mother being who she is happily embraces her and talks with her. So, I decide to stride over and see what they are talking about over there.
"Yes, we can go after I talk to one more person I need to speak with darling." She says brightly and smiles at me when I walk over. "Hello son I see you came."
"Yes, I came to give my fiancé a ride home." I admit smirking down at Adison and she tosses me an exasperated look.
"I really wanted to ride home with mom." She gives me a pouty face and my mom chuckles.
It was a normal thing for Adison to refer to my mother as mom even before the engagement that never happened. Since her mom had left her so young, she looked up to my mom as a mother figure. Which I remember I had since then looked up her mom and what on earth she was doing with her life to leave a husband and child behind.
The answer was simple she was painting seaside and selling those paintings at auctions for charity. I remember looking up the people who purchase them and seeing that Adison's father Nathaniel had bought a few. I guess in hopes of her remembering he existed and coming back to him.
Even if she did it wouldn't do anything for Adison she had to grow up without a mother and I sympathized with her. No child deserves to be abandoned by the person that had them and was supposed to love them more than anyone in the world.
