Kinks & Nerdy Winks: A High School Love Story

Chapter Three | Everywhere

The birds chirp loudly as wind flows through the car windows. A blanket of purple-pink covers the morning sky, signalling the new day. 

"After today it'll officially be your first week at school Lu-Lu!" My mum exclaims excitedly. She's been worrying about me making friends so she was really happy to hear about the girls.

"I know Ma, you were right, it's pretty good down here." I reply while readjusting my headband in the car mirror. The short drive came to an end in no time. Mum and I part ways before I start walking to the locker bay to meet up with Cartiaz.

"Hey Luzi! You won't believe what happened last night. Milo, my puppy, started biting everything she could find! My room is a messsss but it's so worth it 'cause she's cute!" Cartiaz begins rambling the second she sees me. I love her stories, they always make me feel less stressed. Soon enough the bell rings and we're on our way to maths.

Walking down the now familiar halls, I notice a familiar face walking in front of us. His dark green hair makes him hard to miss. The prick from the airport, Edrick. I keep on walking, ignoring his existence, and chatting to Cartiaz until we reach the classroom. He struts into the room and sits down with his friends. In our classroom. Since when was HE in this class?!

Cartiaz drags me into the classroom and right at that moment Edrick and I make eye contact. I quickly break the gaze, turning and sitting on my chair. It has been 4 days how have I not noticed that he's in this class?! I guess I have been focused on getting work done but still! I take one deep breath before ignoring my brain and focusing on maths.

An hour later I am sitting in Chemistry and guess who magically appears in my class again! At this point I'm starting to think that he's transferred classes just to annoy me more. I sigh trying to focus on the work in front of me as we prepare for a prac.

"Okay, I'm going to split you up in groups of 3. Remember your number!" Mr. Stigek yells out before walking and numbering everyone, his stern gaze still visible through his square glasses. The girls told me they've never seen the man smile...

"Now, go to the lab benches and find your teammates." He adds, arms crossed with a strong frown. We all scatter, trying to find our team members.

"Who's number 2?" I hear Caritaz call out from a bench. I smile in relief and head over there but something knocks me from my path. Or rather someone. Green hair gets into my face and I respond with a light shove.

"Watch it will ya?" I mutter trying to walk past him.

"Sorry but I clearly stopped..." He argues. I just click my tongue. He literally walked into me.

"Okay..." Cartiaz says carefully trying to tame the tension between us two. "Let's get started then, Luzi you'll do the prac write up, I'll do prep and Edrick you can do the prac?" She suggests with a cheery tone. I smile lightly and agree while Edrick nods in agreement.

How come I always end up in a group with this guy and since when was he in my classes?!

The prick takes his time, slowly completing the prac. I know he knows what to do so I don't know why he's being annoying and pretending not to.

"Hey Luzi can you help me out a little?" Edrick asks softly. I am left shocked by his tone, it is soft and sweet. In my confusion, I decide to help him out. He gets me to hold a flask while he mixes the solution. When he's done he takes it from me and pours it in, the clear solution turning pink and smoke forming around it.

I move quickly back to my chair and start the write up of the prac. His hands are so soft. Not that I care.

I scribble down the notes, writing a conclusion of the prac. After packing up, Cartiaz and Edrick sit next to me and ask if I need any help. I'm practically finished so I decline their offer writing the last sentence. Our teacher collects our prac and telling us we're free to go to recess. Cartiaz sweetly says bye to Edrick while we exchange a curt nod before walking off to the our meeting spot.
