Alex doesn't know what he would do without Charlie. He often wonders what if he had met Charlie earlier than when they did meet each other?  Would it have prevented everything that was part of Alex's life when Hannah Baker was still alive? Would things have been different than what they turned out to be?He loved having Charlie in life now don't get him wrong,he just couldn't help but wonder.  Would meeting him earlier in high school life have changed things from how they had ended up turning out or would nothing change  from how they turned out to be? Would it have stopped Alex from what he did to himself? Charlie St George entering his life saved him from himself by showing him what true love in a relationship is which saved his life. Charlie may be a year younger than him but he is like a grounding anchor for Alex when he needed it. So if it wasn't for Charlie in his life he doesn't know what he would do.  Having him grounded and stabilized him.
