The early morning sunlight beams through the long curtains in my bedroom, I weakly flutter my eyes open, taking a moment to adjust to the brightness. I sigh heavily before forcing myself up and slowly walking to the fabric covering my windows. When I reach the curtains, I force them open and my room is now filled with more light than before. I wince at the unbearable feeling of the light violently hitting my pupils, waiting for the strain to die down, when it does, I look out of the glass and admire the acres upon acres of land that surrounded my home.

Kidran winters were a bit odd if you thought about it. It almost never snows in Kidra, but that doesn't stop our weather from dropping to the coldest of the cold, and sometimes, the next day it's as hot as ever. You never know if you're going to need one layer of clothing or ten.

Today was a hot day.

The Great House was a huge tourist location, it almost looked like a city itself the way people would flood the courtyard just to get a glimpse of the 'Great Family." Being a part of a lineage such as mine came with its perks of course. Simply ringing a bell, or hitting the 'request help' option on my screen could send a team in here just to get me ready for the day.

I rarely use that 'perk' by the way.

I linger my eyes across all the greenery that our grounds had to offer and enjoy the warmth the sun on my skin had provided for long enough. I turn around and step towards my bathroom. Flicking the light on, I noticed the gold trim was shiner than usual, I figured that my maids likely cleaned it while I was out at the dinner last night.

Oh god. The dinner.

All the memories of the night before soon flood my mind, including unanswerable questions. This is now my biggest secret, and it's going to take every ounce of fight in me to keep it a secret. I look up at my mirror to see myself. I had my curly hair wrapped tight in a silk cloth and wore a matching set of pajamas. I step closer to the sink below my mirror and grab my toothbrush.

I finish all of my morning steps and walk out of the bathroom and over to my vanity. I sit down in front of it and unwrap the cloth my hair was trapped in. I struggled forever trying to get my hair to cooperate with me, so today, I decided to use my little 'perk' and call for a cluster of maids.

They all came rushing in after a few moments and I requested that I wanted my hair done. Luckily, I awoke at around seven, so we had a few hours to kill. The maids all sat down around me and began to braid my hair. I loved having hair like mine, especially when I had a hairstyle like braids. They made me look more like my mother.

After a few hours, my hair was completed. I kept it my natural hair color and put it in a half-up half-down style. I thank my maids for their time and they shuffle out as quickly as they came in. I change into a champagne-colored day dress and deem myself ready for today.

I shuffle through the grand halls of my home, filled with gold trims and chandeliers. Light beamed throughout every window, making the space seem so much more alive. Guards were posted everywhere, which I had gotten used to by now. I continued down different halls and rooms until I reached the breakfast room, where I found my mother.

"Ah, good morning, I'm glad you decided to join me," my mother says, the light from the grand windows made her look like a goddess the way it delicately hit her dark brown skin and the golden dress she wore that matched the trim in the corners of each wall. She smiles and I quickly sit down in the seat next to her, I watch her for a moment as she throws her hair behind her shoulder when it gets in her way.

Her pupils land from my face to my hair and her eyes widen, "Your hair looks wonderful, dearest!"

"Thank you, mama. I could never top yours though," I reply.
