Veneer had his set on this ombre haired interviewer. Simply falling in love with him. The way he talked, the way he walked even the way he dressed. Kid Ritz was perfect.
Velvet on the other hand, was not as open to Ritz as her brother was, seeing him as nothing more than just another pawn in THEIR game of chess. Making this clear to her brother, letting whatever insult she could think of freely fall out of her face, not caring how Veneer would protest and defend.
Veneer didn't care. He always got what he wanted, why should he stop now? He made sure to dress in the most expensive of clothing. Wearing a flashy white suit with golden swirls delicately and precisely placed on his back and wrists. White faux feathers jutting out of the cuffs on his wrists. A nice black bow tie accompanying it. Matching bright white pants that tapered and flared nearing his ankles, giving him a sense of elegance and grace, flowing freely as he walked down the red carpet. His hair was slicked back in-front but long and free in the back.
Velvet also spared no expense having her own person to impress. White gloves covering her forearm while a red flowered dress covered her shoulders and chest. Swaying and blowing ever so slightly in the cold night wind. Walking down the same red carpet and looking for a specific purple haired girl in the crowed. Spotting her as she made direct eye contact, winked, and took her left hand to her ruby red lips and blowing her kiss. Velvet watched the girls face as it turned a darker shade of purple with a satisfied grin.
Veneer made it to the entrance walked in, wasting no time in his search, finally spotting his prize. Ritz stood in the middle of snack stand, almost teasing Veneer, the infectious smile on Ritz face plagued Veneer and he walked directly up to him. Veneer being as forward as possible, making his intentions clear, though not as clear as he thinks.
"So you here often pretty boy?" Veneer said, confident as ever.
"Oh uh no, no i don't, these kinds of parties aren't normally my thing y'know?"
Ritz didn't look at Veneer. Not even a glance. Veneer didn't like this and continued in his efforts.
"Yeah I know what a bore right, all you can do is stand around and make the occasional talk with some random you'll never see again"
Ritz turned around this time. Wide eyed in shock as he took in Veneers features. The same dark blue eyeshadow and vibrant green lipstick. He did notice how different his hair was styled. Ritz felt a little underdressed. His blue suit and white bow tie not nearly as fancy as Veneers. With his hair tied up into a high pony tail though he ditched his beanie this time.
"OH VENEER! Hi man how you doing? Its good to see you" Ritz always happy to see a one of his interviewees. He extended his arm and held out his hand. Eyes closed and smile wide.
"And same to you Ritz, always nice to see a familiar face" He said, grabbing Ritz hand and placing a gentle kiss on it, leaving behind a smudge of green lipstick. He made sure to pick his cheapest brand should he get a chance with Ritz. Leaving it as a mark on his future lover.
Ritz blushed at this gesture and quickly laughed it off, trying to chase away the heat that creeped up on his face, the usual over the top Veneer. Veneer only stared in wonder and what could only be described as burning desire and want. Grinning and baring his longer than average fangs. Only serving to fluster Ritz more.
"Since these... gatherings don't tickle your fancy should I call it, what say you and me get out of here hmm?" Veneer said, trying his damndest to charm Ritz, this had to work.
"You make an interesting offer pal" Ritz said, trying his best to play it cool. "But sadly I would have to decline that offer"
Veneers felt annoyed. Annoyed wasn't even the word. He doesn't know how to describe why he did what he did next. He just knows he saw others dancing as he glanced off to the side. Looking back at Ritz who had been drinking what was most likely spiked punch (teenagers upper and middle class alike were all the same). Ritz knows that one minute he felt burning in throat and the next he was huddle up next to Veneer, who had taken his chance, waltzing around the dance floor.
"What are you doing?" Ritz said as he stumbled along in a desperate attempt to keep up Veneer.
Veneer slowed his pace as he realized that Ritz wasn't in a usual position.
"Whats it look like?" His pace slowed but his heart raced and he couldn't fight the strong blush that attacked his face. "Do you even know how to waltz?"
"NO! And I'm not sure WHY you do?!"
"Eh fancy work parties and upper class dance lessons alike. Needed to pick a sport or something to stay out of the house as long as possible" Veneer nonchalantly explained. Almost sluggishly slow as he attempted to guide Ritz.
Ritz looked down at Veneers feet. Watching as they moved with precision and grace, Veneer moved his right foot forward and Ritz rushed to move his left foot back. Veneer quickly moving his left foot forward and to the side with Ritz quickly following his move. Eventually they built a rhythm, moving slowly around in a square as they danced, Ritz losing focus on everything but Veneer.
Veneer noticed Ritz' focus on him and gave a small smile, not sure how to react in a situation like this, a situation where he wasn't being overly assertive and dominant. A situation where he had to work for something he wanted. His face turning a light shade of pink as Ritz smiled back at him and laid his head on his shoulder.
Minutes passed like seconds as they continued their slow waltz. Hearts synced as they continued their rhythmic movements. Ritz was first to break it, patting Veneer on his shoulder and quickly walking over to his unattended drink. Veneer was about to follow when Velvet came running at him. He was confused and more than a little miffed. Realizing she'd made a friend.
"Hello sister dearest, what is it now?" He rolled his eyes, he knew that he would get a talking to when they left but he didn't care.
"Nothing just thought you'd introduce me to that over there" she flicked her eyes towards Ritz.
"Thought you'd care to do the same"
Velvet held the hand of a purple haired girl (whos name was Orchid) and seemed to be dragging her around.
"Well if you simply must know this here is-"
"ORCHID!!" Ritz shouted and waved happily. Orchid waved back and ran towards Ritz, hugging when they finally collided. Ritz was telling Orchid about how it was so great to see her here and how everything was going. Orchid doing the same.
"They know each other?"
"It would seem so"
Ritz introduced Orchid to Veneer as his best friend/sister from some other mister. Velvet wasn't so pleased with this information, wasting no time in persuading Orchid to come back with her to her place. Orchid said a quick goodbye to Ritz and disappeared back into the crowd with Velvet.
"You guys don't take no for an answer do you?"
Veneer felt embarrassed at this realizing he must've come off as a jerk. Quickly apologizing for his behavior.
"Hey don't worry about it" Ritz said "besides, I think it was rather sweet of you teaching me to waltz"
Veneer felt soft lips press against his cheek and the heat on his face returned. Ritz slipped a piece of paper into Veneers pocket.
"Im going get a going now. Call me tho alright?" Ritz made a phone with hands and shot Veneer some finger guns as he too disappeared out of exit and into the crowd. Veneer now stood, alone and completely smitten, a smile creeping up on his face.
