After the duke's sudden announcement of him adopting Selina, a lot happened.

She and Audra were shown to the west part of the castle, and arrangements were made for both of them. As Audra and Selina settled in their new quarters, the Duke visited them the next day with two butlers and an old, plump, cheery man.

One of the butlers was assigned to Audra and Selina. And the old man introduced himself as the registrar of the duchy. He added Selina to the family registry, making it official. That evening, the duchy celebrated the birth of the princess even though it was almost a month late.

The Duke asked if Audra would be kind enough to look after Selina until he found her a reliable nanny to look after her. Audra heartily agreed.

As Selina grew up, she gathered more information about this new world she had entered.

The kingdom was just recovering from their war with the neighbouring country. The reason for the war was unclear. Her biological father was the older brother of the duke, and her mother had been only 18 when she told her parents she was going to help out in the war as a healer. When her parents refused, she stole a horse and ran to the front.

What a badass woman.

Not like her aunt was any less amazing.

Audra was the older sister. Married to the Lord Norwood of the East when she was 20 years old. She had learned swordmanship since childhood and when the war began she went to the front lines to fight. For her contributions in the battle she was officially knighted by imperial family and received the title Dame. She was one among the current Duke's commanders.

Audra told her these stories to put her to sleep. She didn't know Selina understood them all.

The duke was busy with rebuilding the community. And dealing with state affairs.

Selina rarely saw him in her first few year. She rarely did anything except have fun in her first and a half years as an infant. She ate yummy food, cried a lot, and slept like a baby.

When she learned how to walk, she tried to keep it a secret from the maids and her new nanny Grace. When they weren't looking, she would run out and explore the castle. If she saw anyone else, she would pretend to have crawled her way to wherever she was.

Selina's fourth birthday had been celebrated the day before. She received a ton of gifts. In the morning, she sorted through the gifts, keeping as many sweets as possible and the few dresses that she liked. She told her butler to distribute the rest of the sweets and the dresses to children in the town's orphanage.

The butler and her maid, Millie, were surprised by her announcement but followed her instructions.

As a four year old Selina was no longer restricted to her nursery or the west wing in the castle. She was free to roam the whole castle accompanied by her maid Emily. Once she was done with her lunch in her nursery, she decided to visit the library with Emily.

In the past four years, Selina had seen the duke every year only on special occasions, her birthday, the duke's birthday, and the town's two famous festivals that they celebrated inside the castle and saw the fireworks later from the duke's balcony.

Now Selina sat on a cushy chair by the library fireplace with a stack of books in front of her all about the history of the kingdoms. With a separate stack of storybooks and legends famous in the kingdom.

In the duke's office, the head butler was informing the duke of Selina's visit to the library.

The duke smirked listening to Butler's report and murmured to himself, "What a bizarre child".

Selina had learned how to read while her nanny read her storybooks. This world's language was similar to the language she spoke in her previous life. Selina was especially gifted with languages, in her previous life as Annabelle she spoke seven languages fluently.
