James Potter
James couldn't stop grinning, their first flying lesson, he'd missed his broom since he arrived and though the school brooms would be nothing to his Nimbus 1500 they were still something. Sirius had joined him in his excitement, Remus had been trying for non-chalets, apparently because he often lived near muggles so he didn't often get to fly, though James couldn't tell if he was excited for the chances or dreading it, Peter however was definitely dreading it, James could tell that much considering the different shades Peter's face had turned when he read the notice stating they would be taking the flying lesson today on the quidditch pitch, Peter had flushed from embarrassment after making a noise between and squeak and a high pitched scream, then he'd gone pale as a ghost and finally took on a sickly green complexion that had remain on his face since. James and Sirius had practically skipped onto the pitch while Remus avoided standing in front of Peter pushing him forward with one hand a book in his other, Quidditch through the Ages, reading out loud tips for flying and Lily walked at his side taking notes and nodding.
"Books aren't doing to help you here, it's pure instinct flying," Sirius told them, but they ignored him.
"Not quite Mr..." James whirls to see a tall and slim yet muscular woman wearing a blue cloak shaped similarly to a quidditch uniform.
"Black," Sirius answered putting an arm on James's shoulder.
"Mr Black, Flying isn't just instinctive, we are not birds after all, it is also training, hard work and athleticism." presumably the flying instructor informed, "I am Emily Whisp, but while we are here you will call me Madam Whisp. I'll be your flying instructor." she introduced straight back she reminded James of Professor McGonagall.
"And here are the rest of your peers." James looked behind him as the Slytherins decided to join them this was the only class they had with them apart from Potions a fact he'd seen Lily complaining about with Severus, he seemed to have gotten over his initial dislike for Lily's house at the girls newfound friendship with another boy, that boy being Remus, who Severus's shoulder checked making him drop his book as he moved between Lily and Remus. Lily didn't seem to notice and Remus didn't seem to care, just bending down to pick up his book, but Sirius marched toward the Slytherin, James grabbed him when Sirius looked back at him James jerked his head toward Madam Whisp.
"Whisp..." Remus voiced and looked at his book then their teacher.
"Yes? My ancestor, Mr..." Madam Whisp informed and at their confusion Remus held up his book and pointed to the cover "By Kennilworthy Whisp" was written on the front next to his finger.
"Lupin," Remus added.
"You're related to the man that wrote Quidditch through the Ages." Lily voiced distracted from Severus's attempts to get her attention.
"Indeed, but this is not History of Magic, this is Flying, so everyone step up to a broom. come on!" Madam Whisp clapped her hands together gesturing to the lines of brooms laid out for them they all lined up on the right side of a broom following orders faster than in any other class except for a few nervous-looking students who were slower.
"Stick your right hand out over the broom and say 'Up'" Madam Whisp ordered.
"Up," James said confidently and his broom leaped into his hand. James looked up, Sirius's broom had done the same along with a few others, but the rest of the class brooms either rolled around on the floor, lifted a little before going back to the ground or didn't move at all.
"With conviction, Again!" Madam Whsip insisted. Remus's jumped up into his hand after his fifth try where he'd start to sound unamused and a little mift. Lily's got a little high with every command taking six before it was high enough for her to grab it. Marlene had hers in hand on the first try, Severus got his up on his eighth try, before Peter who on his tenth try the broom almost took him off the ground probably bruised his hand after his jump jerkily up over his head, eventually everyone had the brooms and Madam Whisp instructed them on how to mount without sliding off the end and went along correcting peoples grip.
Now, when I blow my whistle, you kick off from the ground, hard, Keep your brooms steady, rise a few feet, and then come straight back down by leaning forward slightly. On my whistle – three – two – one" Madam Whisp blew her whistle the class rose some higher then others, James was reluctant to come down, so was Lily apparently because she just kept going up, but then James saw her face and the angle of her broom it was tilted down, but it was still rising being pulled up from the tail end something that shouldn't happen, James didn't think twice and shot up after her as Madam Whisp yelled for them to land.
"Lily grab my hand!" James called, he could tell she was scared, because she didn't argue about not being a damsel and clasped his hand, He pulled her off the rogue broom onto his which began shuddering due to the weight, lucky Marlene who had seemed to realise what was going on after James had taken off had followed and flow up behind them scooting in next to them so Lily could disperse her weight between the two broom. James put a hand over her grasping Marlene's broom and Marlene did the same in front of Lily so they could in sync gloat down to the ground. Lily's broom just kept going up like it was affected by a levitation spell like the one they'd all been learning in Charms, Madam Whisp seemed to be thinking the same thing looking around, Evan Rosier's hand just tucked into his pocket before Madam Whisp could see, but James saw and went to go over to him, but someone caught his shoulder he turned to Sirius who was giving him the same look he gave him earlier, not here, then, finding no one at fault blaming a dodgy school broom mishap they continued the lesson. James gave Sirius a look when the lesson was done and went to follow Evan and Snape who were conveniently walking together, but were stopped.
"Mr Potter a moment." Madam Whisp called Sirius looked at him then went to keep walking, but their delay had given their very perceptive friend Remus time to move in front of Sirius pushing a very sick-looking Peter at him, so Sirius was distracted by trying not to be in front of Peter and rubbing his back as he emptied his stomach. James walks up to Madam Whsip.
"You're a very perceptive young man Mr Potter, and you might have saved that young lady from not just injury but also a very traumatizing experience. Your skill with the broom can also not go unnoticed, but it's your perception I'm most interested in right now, I noticed you noticing Mr Rosier, is there something you'd like to tell me?" Madam Whisp questioned and James, thought for a moment, though taking this into his own hands would be more interesting, that probably wouldn't stop Rosier from going after Lily again, since he was likely doing so because of her Muggle-born status
"I believe, I saw Rosier putting his wand away after I landed, he shouldn't have needed it for this class unless he was practising fiddling with other people's brooms." James voiced.
"I see, rest assured, Mr Potter, Mr Rosier will be punished for his actions." Madam Whisp informed and James nodded walking over to Surius, that just left Severus, luckily they had potions together.
