Remember when you were afraid of the dark?
Monsters under your bed. Monsters in your closet.
Threatening shadows.
Unidentified bumps in the night, startling you from sleep, keeping you awake in their mystery, sparking that primal terror of the unseen predator.
That is who I am, who I have always been.
You were taught that the night is toothless with pictures of happy campfires, friendly owls, sprays of stars, and crescent moons with smiling faces.
All are fiction created to embolden you to walk without fear in my shadows.
This you will learn.
So, come outside in the dark.
Bring your technology, lights carving out small spaces of safety or fires briefly blurring my edges.
Eventually they will all fail.
And I will still be here.
