"Welcome to Sydney, Australia ladies and gentlemen, and we would like to thank you for flying with American Airlines.", I hear a sickeningly sweet voice say. I groaned as I open my eyes to the view of the seat in front of me and people rising up. I turn to the seat to my left to wake up my little brother, Alex. "Hey midget, wake up. We're here." I say as I shake him.
As Alex starts to open his eyes, he also begins to cry. "Now why are you crying?" I ask, slightly annoyed.
"Calysta, my ears were hurting while we were flying." he whines. He begins to rub his ears, hoping I'll show some sympathy.
"Alex, I love you to death, but you're 7 years old. We're not even flying anymore, so man up." I say with as much authority as I can. Since I'm responsible for him now, he has to start learning that I'm in charge.
He gives me a dirty look as he stops rubbing his ears. "Mom would give me a hug and kiss if she were here." he said with angry tears in his eyes.
"Well I'm not mom, but" I bend down and give him a kiss on the cheek, giving up my tough act. "that part, I can take care of." I say.
After getting all of our luggage, we head to the airport lounge, looking for our cousin Jaden, who would be our caretaker for a while. My eyes scan the room for him, but I see no sign of him. While searching the room, my eyes come across a man holding a sign that says "Valencias". I roll my eyes knowing that coming to pick us up from a damn airport was too big of a task for Jaden's lazy ass.
Alex and I approach, what I'm assuming, a taxi man. "We're the Valencias." I said in an annoyed tone.
"Well no need to take it out on me that someone couldn't pick you up. Now come. Your cousin wants you there by 3 and it's an hour ride with all this traffic." he says in his Aussie accent.
I give him a dirty look and look down at my phone for the time. 2:22. "Why does he want us at his house by 3?" I ask.
"He said something of having friends over and doesn't want them asking questions about you if you come in when they're there." taxi man answers. He begins to walk towards the exit in a hurried pace.
Fantastic. Not only will we have to get all 'Fast and the Furious' to get at the house in time, but I also might possibly have to meet people, which I'm completely not in the mood for. I groan and grab Alex's hand and try to catch up with this taxi guy.
Once we get to the taxi, I buckle in Alex and put our luggage in the back. I get in the back seat with Alex, strap in and close my eyes, attempting to take a nap. I feel a tap on my shoulder and look over to Alex. "Why is he talking so weird?" he whispers.
"Alex, shut up and take a nap." I whisper to him harshly.
"Oh also," I say before I drift off to sleep, "welcome to Australia."
