he looked at her
the way she needed to be looked at like the whole world could crumble and he wouldn't blinkHis eyes were glued to the clock on the wall as he sat on the sofa, his foot tapping impatiently. Every second felt like a minute, and the anticipation was gnawing at him. His phone buzzed on the table, vibrating against the wood, and he quickly grabbed it, answering without even glancing at the screen.
"Peeche wale gate se aana," He said curtly before cutting the call.
Five minutes later, the sound of the back gate creaking open broke the silence. Raghav appeared, struggling with several shopping bags in his hands. He was panting slightly, looking a bit disheveled from the rush.
His eyes narrowed as he looked at Raghav, his tone sharp. "Itna time kyun laga, Raghav?" (What took you so long, Raghav?)
"Boss, jaldi mein shopping karni padi, isliye." (Boss, I had to shop in a hurry, that's why.) Raghav placed the bags on the sofa, adjusting his shirt that had become wrinkled from the weight of the bags. He looked around and then back at his boss, a mischievous smile tugging at the corners of his lips. "By the way, kyu aapko naye kapde chahiye?" (By the way, why do you need new clothes now?)
Raghav's grin faltered as he finally took a good look at him. His boss's white kurta was splattered with turmeric stains, and his face was still smeared with the remnants of the ceremony. Raghav's eyebrows shot up, and a teasing smirk returned to his face.
"Boss, aap kisi ke haldi function se aa rahe ho kya?" (Boss, are you coming from someone's haldi function?)
His boss, without a word, gave him a slight nod before turning and heading into the room where Raghav had left the bags. His footsteps echoed through the room as Raghav followed closely behind, still wearing that playful grin.
"Kiska function tha? Raj sir ka?" Raghav asked, throwing out a casual guess as he walked behind him.
He stopped abruptly, causing Raghav to nearly bump into him. The room suddenly felt heavier as he spoke without turning around, his voice low but clear. "Mera." (Mine.)
The word hung in the air like a thunderclap.
Raghav's steps froze mid-movement, his mouth hanging open as the realization of what his boss had just said sunk in. His mind scrambled to catch up with the information. What did he just say?
"Kya... aap sach mein shaadi kar rahe ho?" (What... are you really getting married?) he stammered, his voice barely above a whisper. The shock was evident in every inch of his body, from his slackened jaw to the wide-eyed stare that followed his every move.
His boss, however, didn't even look up as he calmly continued unpacking the clothes Raghav had brought. His focus was laser-sharp, hands moving swiftly as if Raghav's question hadn't hit him at all.
