I was there that night I saw everything.
I was 9 when my mother and father were killed but it wasn't them they were after.*Flashback*
I woke up to loud footsteps outside my bedroom door and window. I looked over to my bedside table at my alarm clock 1:36am what a strange time to wake up I thought. I lay my head back down onto my pillow to try to go back to sleep when all of a sudden my door opens. This causes me to jolt upright but my cause for alarm was uncalled for it was only my 12 year old brother.
"Saphire you need to get up, dressed and packed now." I just looked at him with confusion when I realised he wasn't kidding.
As quickly as I could grabbed the biggest bag I could find and threw it onto my bed. "What should I pack?" Alex just stared at me like that was even a question. "Did u really just ask that? I don't know everything as much as u can carry we wont be coming back" you could tell he was trying really hard not to shout. I just lowered my head and silently ran to my wardrobe and pulled out as best I could nine sets of everything even shoes. I closed my now giant and heavy bag, picked it best I could and started to walk but something stopped me it was Alex he pulled the bag off my shoulder and put it on the opposite shoulder to his rucksack I smiled at this gesture and he replied with a head nod like it was no problem. I love my brother.
As we leave my bedroom my brother checks the coast is clear before even letting me look out the door. He gives the all clear and we sneakily move through our hallway. We pass many rooms as we sneak through the hallway. Last on the left was mum and dads room but Alex just kept me moving. "Shouldn't we wake mum and dad up?" Alex looked at me sorrowful then looked down and said "lets just get ourselves out of here." I followed him even though it felt wrong leaving mum and dad behind.
We carefully sneak down the stairs being mindful of the squeakier floorboards. As we decended down the stairwell i could see all the family pictures mounted on the wall and they made me smile. Although they did not make me smile with happiness but sorrow for i knew we could never return to this home ever again.
We rounded the right corner towards the kitchen and the back door when i felt my coller being grabbed yanking me backwards.
"Well looky what we have here." The voice made me cringe it sounded so grimey it made me wanna vomit just hearing him speak.
"Ooh, nice catch brother the boss will be pleased." This other voice was different however; smooth, educated, i could almost feel like i could fall asleep to his voice.
Suddenly i was thrown to the ground and landed hard on the wood flooring. Tears threatened to reach the surface but i held back; i was stronger than that. Although this did give me a chance to sneek a peak at the creeps that would attack an innocent family.
The one that had grabbed me had longish brown hair and dark eyes with a few visible scars on his neck and face he was tall id say about 6ft. The one next to him had dirty blonde shortish hair and bright blue eyes his face was gentle and alluring he was alot taller than his counter part id say about 6'6. This got me thinking they looked so different so how could they b brothers; it made no sense.
By this time alex had noticed my absence from his side and ran to my aid but was met by a blow to the abdomen which resulted him falling to my side.
The two men smiled at eachother at looked at us as if they could see right through us as if they knew something we didnt. Blondie spoke "let them join the others." Before we knew it we were being lifted up by another two people and being dragged into the giant garden attached to the treeline of a large forest. There in the middle i saw mum and dad tied together on a large piece of wood that was coming out of the ground.
Me and alex were tied to a seperate large piece of wood just a few feet from mum and dad. When we were secure the person who i asumed was in charge stepped forward. His posture held never lowering even his head to look at us. "Now which one of you fine people are going to tell me where i can find the kralijca?"
No one dared speak but his words startled me just at his sheer knowledge of this only the few highborn families of the gifted knew about the kralijca. The leader sighed "id hoped you would be willing to co-operate. Looks like things are gonna have to get messy." He chuckled bitterly at his second sentence.
He walked forward towards my mother and father which made me panic. I started pulling at my binds willing myself free but nothing worked. He wispered something to my mother and father that i couldnt hear and in one foul swoop his hand connected with my mothers face and a knife connected with dads throat threatening to slice at the skin.
"Now will u tell me where?!" His patients was running entirely thin and it entirely frightened me. But things took a step too far when no one talked again. He lit a match and that was the end of it for me.
"STOP! Stop! I'll tell u!" He turned finally facing me. "The kralijca isnt a thing its a person. Its the most powerful one of us and the most trusted with ruling over our people in times of great sorrow and political inbalance." He looked at me bored. "Yes i know that but what i asked was where are they?" I looked at him confused. "There isnt one we havnt needed one in over 100 years we have a council derived from each elder of each clan. We have peace. The only time one apears is when shes needed; you dont choose to become it it chooses you its what you are since birth."
He again gave me the same look. "Well i guess we came all this way for nothing." He got walked back to being about a foot away from my parents smiled at me then flicked the match at my parents. Their screams filled the space around us. Seeing them like that set me off i lost control of my self i couldnt hold it back any more before i knew it my screams were the only thing that could be heard there was fire all around me burning all my enemies rainclouds and thunderstorms raged above us me and alex were released thanks to my outburst he picked up our bags and picked up me as i past out.
