Here I am, sat in the backseat of my dad's range rover, 3,000 miles from my home because my stupid parents decided to get a divorce!
Okay fine, I'll admit that maybe the divorce was a long time coming and probably the best decision for our family, but is moving across the country necessary???I sighed heavily and leaned my head against the window. In the corner of my eye, I saw my dad glance at me in the rearview mirror. His look was pitiful and I almost scoffed. As if this wasn't all his doing?
I rolled my eyes at him and put my focus on what we were driving past. There were palm trees everywhere and huge, separated, white houses. So simplistic yet modern. Everything was so different from how it was in New York. It could be worse though, in an oddly comforting way, it was good to have a change. In fact, I might even go as far as to say it was nice.
Oh god. Nice. Just the word itself made me shudder. Tomorrow morning I'll have to go to a completely new school, in a completely new town with completely new people and I just had to hope with every inch of me that they would be nice.
Not even nice! I'm not even asking for nice. Just tolerable, and maybe one person I could be friends with.Did I mention I hate change?
Suddenly, my dad pulls into a grey stone paved driveway beside a fancy looking beach house. I was actually shocked, excited even?
I shook away my thoughts and remained pissed off at my dad. A decent house was the least he could do for dragging my ass from the only place I've ever known."You coming, Eleanor?" My dad's monotone voice made it sound like less of a question and more of a command. I exhaled and hopped out of the car, grabbing multiple bags from the already open boot. The house before me wasn't going anywhere, and my dad certainly wouldn't let me, so going in was the only option. I guess I could get used to this.
Goodbye New York.
