I got completely dressed and walked over to the door. William and Vanessa were still getting things ready to close down the diner. I waved Christopher over, impatience running through my veins.
"This place was nice but I can't wait to leave here."
"Yeah, neither can I." I looked back at William and Vanessa and smiled.
"Bye guys," I waved at them and they waved back, saying their goodbyes. I turned back to Christopher and held his hand.
"It's time to leave," I pulled him out of the diner and the chilly feeling from outside felt foreign. I shivered but immediately, my body adjusted to the cold. I turned to look at Christopher and gave him one last hug. His embrace was warmed and welcoming and it made me wish I could stay in it forever but that wasn't possible, we had to separate ways. "Goodbye Christopher—"
"Christopher Bethel," he answered. "And goodbye January—"
"Tamar," I came out from his embrace and nudged him on his shoulder. "I'll definitely want to read your book one day, Christopher."
"Of course. I think it might even come out soon," he winked at me. I gasped and used my hand to cover my mouth.
"Really?" The surprise was evident in my voice and he seemed to like it.
"Maybe," he pulled me into another hug. "I'll miss you January even if I only got to know you for a few hours, I know you are a good person and you'll work things out with your family," he pulled me away from the hug. "I believe in you."
"Thanks." The door to the diner swung open and William and Vanessa walked out. William held Vanessa's hand and pulled her away. I stood, shocked because Christopher and her gave off the impression that something was going on between the two of them this morning.
Or you just overthought?
"By the way, don't tell anyone," Christopher suddenly said, making me to face him. "Vanessa asked me to help her bring down the gift she hid from William earlier. That's why you saw us together." My cheek flushed and I felt like a fool. I was that readable. "Please don't cry again."
"Okay."
"Promise me."
"I promise you," he pulled out his pinky finger . I sighed and did a pinky promise with him. "Happy?"
"Yes. Goodbye Nuary."
"Goodbye Falsifier." I turned and walked away from him. I had a heavy heart doing so but we had to separate ways soon. Before I was even a foot away, I felt a soft ball like thing hit me on my back before dissolving. I turned back and realized Christopher had thrown a snow ball at me. My mouth curved into a grin.
"You couldn't just let me go without a fight."
"You know you're falsifier, he doesn't do that." He rolled up another ball and flung it at me. I quickly dodged it and made my own ball, flinging it back at him. A snow ball fight took place afterwards.
The road was clear from snow and it was almost evening time. I was in my car, driving towards my parents place. I drummed my fingers on the steering wheel and looked at my coat placed on the seat beside me. My heart was still heavy and became even heavier when I realized I hadn't gotten his number. We had soo much alike and I felt my infatuation grow. A tear drop rolled down my cheek unto my thigh.
I grabbed my phone out of my purse and dialed my mum. It rang the second time before she answered.
"January?" She asked. She sounded like she was about to cry which made me cry harder.
"Mum," I said with a shaky voice. "I'm on my way home mum."
6:34 pm, January 5th. Snow had began to fall for the second time today and my nose wasn't still adjusting to it. I ran towards the building that had an ominous yellow light and bright neon sign.
I pushed open the door and removed the scarf tied around my neck. The diner was packed than the last time I came here. I walked over to the counter and William stood behind it.
"Welcome back January and a happy new year to you," he said.
"Same to you William. How have you been?"
"Great," he answered. "What may I get for you?"
"Hot cocoa and pancakes please."
"Alrighty. I'll be back with it in a sec," he went to the back and I left the counter. I came here in search of someone and I hope luck would be by my side today. I scanned the diner and finally, my eye landed on a man with short auburn hair who was knee deep into whatever he was doing on his laptop.
I walked over to him and tapped his shoulder. He looked up from his laptop and gave me a very cute toothy smile. That smile warmed up my heart and insides soo much that I'm sure he would've never guessed it was possible. I felt like a balloon that would soon explode.
"Sir, I just came here to tell you you shouldn't touch that." He exhaled from his nose and got up from his chair.
"Nuary."
"Falsifier," I smiled brightly, "I missed you soo much."
"I missed you more." He held my hand and looked me deep in the eye, "you'll tell me everything."
I nodded "Then you better get your popcorn and soda because this would be a long night."
He shrugged indifferently, "I've been stuck in a diner overnight, this won't be bad."
"Okay, don't say I didn't warn you." We sat down and he shut his laptop.
"All together, did it go well?"
"Better than well," I paused, "the best." He gave me that look again that said I told you so but he didn't say it out loud. I looked out the window and the snow was still falling.
He sighed and looked out the window too, "January and snow."
"January and snow," I agreed. He chuckled and I grinned. "Falsifier, my infatuation definitely grew."
