10,000 Hours (Little Women Fanfic)

Prologue / Introduction

Once upon a time, in a house lived 5 sisters, a mother, a father, and a maid. The sisters from oldest to youngest is Meg (17), Daphne (16), Jo (15), Beth (13), and Amy (12). The sisters are very alike but also very different at the same time but the main thing they all have in common is the love they share for their parents and each other.

In the society they are growing up in it is expected that a woman is to marry preferably a rich man who can provide for her and to have children who will grow to do the same. However if you are rich and grew up wealthy you could possibly get away with not marrying or have privileges such as being able to afford most things.

The March family are poor compared to some people in society but they are still better off than some others. One day the father of the March decided to serve in the Civil War which left the girls with their mother and Hannah the maid while they visited their Aunt March.

Meg always wanted to marry and have a family so she attended as many balls and such as she could. Daphne always wanted to find love and wanted to help support her family in any way she could while still living her dream as a seamstress. Jo loved to write in her spare time in hopes of becoming an author, she was never big on the idea of marriage and just wanted to roll with the punches. Beth wanted to be famous piano player (A/N for the sake of this book just go with it), and she also wanted to help support her family. Amy wanted to be a famous artist and marry a rich man who would be there for her and they would travel the world together.

Growing up in the society they did was tough, especially knowing what was expected of them when they got older and knowing others were more fortunate than them making them feel looked down upon.

One day Meg drags Jo to a ball with her and there they meet Theodore Laurence. He offers them a ride home in his carriage since Meg twisted her ankle, when they get home everyone is there except for Daphne. Daphne comes rushing into the house from the cold because she was running late from work. There she meets Theodore Laurence who immediately becomes intrigued by her, after getting to know each other he slowly comes to the realization that she is the one he wants to spend his life with. He is willing to do anything he can to get her to see a future with him as more than a friend. He's willing to spend as much time as it takes to get her to see him as Theodore "Teddy" Laurence, her future husband.
