Maddie

"How do you possibly have plans, it's your second day in this state?" I question Paige who is half way out the door.

"I'm just catching up with an old friend, I'll be back soon," she promises shutting the door behind her.

Typical Paige, always has somewhere to be.

"Whatever, Moo and I will have more fun without you," Josh yells out high fiving me, but Paige has already left and mostly likely did not hear him. "I'm starving," he whines plopping onto a chair in the kitchen.

"And what exactly do you want me to do about that?" I drone sitting down in the chair next to him.

"Let's go out for brunch," he enthuses basically pulling me out door. Literally I could not even grab my purse but thank Jesus Christ I had my phone in my hand.

"Did you ever even cook before we got here?" I ask as I am being shoved into the passenger seat of Josh's convertible. The Hylands are loaded which is the reason behind why they all have cars and I ride a fucking bicycle to get around.

"Shush," he pouts.

I put on my seatbelt as Josh drives to a nice little bistro in downtown Los Angeles. I could not stop laughing the entire way there because you know Josh and his jokes. His sense of humour is something I've always loved about him. He had the power to light up any room, or car in this situation.

"Josh!" all of the workers and even some patrons cheer as the two of us walk into the bistro.

"How often do you come here?" I mumble worriedly into his ear, because seriously, everyone in this place knows his name meaning he must come here regularly. I must teach this boy how to cook as soon as possible.

"Let's take a seat in my usual spot," Josh suggests pulling me to a table for two next to the window.

"Seriously you have a spot?" I exclaim and he nods nonchalantly. "I'm gonna repeat my question once again and slower this time," I inform him slowing down my speech. "How often do you come here?"

"Don't worry about it, Ziegs. Just do you boo," he replies sassily. Oh god what even is Joshua Hyland? Now that, is a question of the ages.

"Alrighty then," I mumble as a middle-aged lady approaches us.

"Hello Josh, how are you doing sweetheart?" she questions him.

"I'm doing great Sally, how bout you?" he responds giving her a smile. Josh seemed to be very fond of her and she seemed to be very fond of Josh, but honestly, I have not met anyone who wasn't very fond of Josh.

"I'm fine thank you hun. Is this lovely girl over here your girlfriend?" she questions sweetly.

"No," Josh answers blushing. Wow, in 16 years of knowing this man, this is the first time I've ever seen him blush.

"This is my friend Maddie. Her and my sister, who are best friends, just moved in with me yesterday. They drove all the way from Pittsburgh and arrived in the afternoon..."

Seriously Josh, she asked who I was, not for my damn life story. But nevertheless she looked completely interested in everything Josh was saying.

Well, that makes one of us.

At this point I've basically tuned him out even though I'm the one he's talking about. I just smile and nod until he's done talking.

"Well Maddie welcome to Los Angeles, I'm Sally," she introduces herself, "and while you're here please teach this one to cook before he goes broke," she teases giving Josh a little slap on the back.

"Nice to meet you and oh don't you worry, that's number one on my to-do list," I grin at her before giving Josh a teasing look.We give Sally our orders then she skips away towards the kitchen.

"Aw she's so cute,"I coo referring to the nice lady who just skipped away.

"She's a grown woman, not a child Moo," Josh remarks and I roll my eyes at his attempt to be clever.

"Shut up, you know what I mean," I counter.

"Yea I get what you're saying," he admits. "Sally's been kinda like my mom out here. It's nice to have someone," he explains and I nod my head understandingly.

We make small talk as we waited for Sally to return with our meals. I ordered waffles and sausage with ice water and a coffee and Josh got an omelette with orange juice.

"How can you drink an extremely hot drink and an extremely cold drink simultaneously?" Josh questions dumfoundedly.I shrug my shoulders before taking another sip of my ice water. guess drinking two opposite temperature drinks at the same time could be classified as odd but who is anybody else to judge me.

"You're such a weirdo, did you know that?" he huffs teasingly.

"So I've heard," I smirk in response.
