Title: The Calm After the Storm
The campfire crackled gently, casting golden shadows across the pine trees that bordered Camp Half-Blood. Percy sat cross-legged on a log, staring into the flames, the tension from their earlier argument still weighing on him. Across the fire, Y/N sat with their arms wrapped around their knees, their face tight with the same unresolved guilt.
The argument had been stupid—like most of their fights. It had started with a difference of opinion during sparring and escalated into trading accusations that neither truly meant. Percy could still hear the sharpness in his own voice as he'd said something cutting about Y/N's combat technique, and he winced at the memory.
Annabeth was sitting nearby, her grey eyes flicking between the two of them. She leaned over to Luke, who lounged lazily on the bench beside her, and smirked. "Do you think they'll say something, or should we lock them in the armory until they work it out?"
Luke chuckled, his sharp blue eyes twinkling with amusement. "Nah, I give it two minutes tops. Percy can't stand staying mad at anyone, and Y/N looks like they're about to break."
True to Luke's prediction, Percy finally sighed, running a hand through his perpetually messy hair before standing up and walking around the fire toward Y/N.
"Hey," he said softly, his voice tentative but warm. "Can we... talk?"
Y/N looked up at him, their expression shifting from guarded to hesitant. After a beat, they nodded and stood, the two of them stepping away from the campfire to find some privacy near the strawberry fields. Annabeth and Luke exchanged a knowing glance but didn't follow.
"Look, I was a total jerk earlier," Percy began, shoving his hands into his pockets. "I didn't mean to say half the stuff I did. I was just frustrated, and I took it out on you. That wasn't fair."
Y/N shifted on their feet, their voice quiet but earnest. "It wasn't just you. I was stubborn, and I pushed you. I know you were trying to help, and I turned it into a competition for no reason."
For a moment, they stood in silence, the tension melting into something softer, more vulnerable.
"I'm sorry," Percy said again, his sea-green eyes locking onto theirs.
"Me too," Y/N replied with a small smile.
"Friends again?" Percy held out his hand, but Y/N shook their head.
"Always," they said, pulling him into a hug instead.
From their spot by the fire, Annabeth leaned back with a smirk. "Called it."
Luke laughed under his breath. "They're so obvious it hurts."
"Should we help them along?" Annabeth mused, a glint of mischief in her eyes.
Luke grinned. "I've got an idea."
When Percy and Y/N returned to the fire a few minutes later, Luke was holding up a bright red strawberry and waggling his eyebrows. "So, who gets to feed the other first?"
Annabeth burst into laughter while Percy turned bright red. Y/N covered their face with their hands, groaning.
"You're the worst," Percy muttered, though he couldn't help the small, embarrassed smile creeping onto his face.
But as Y/N nudged him playfully with their elbow, the weight of their earlier argument was forgotten. Maybe Annabeth and Luke were onto something after all.
