Matt Finley could never complain about his life. Well, at least at home. He had two loving parents, lovely big house and he was rich. It was all perfect.

He knew he was adopted, it wasn't any secret. His parents, Kiara and James, couldn't have children, and it was hurting them. When one day they came into adoption centre in Boston and found Matt, they knew he was the one for them. He was just peacefully laying in a bed, 2 weeks old, playing with a toy in his hand. They moved to San Francisco when Matt was a year old and lived there ever since.

That's at least what his parents told him. He believed them of course, why wouldn't he, right?

Matt was sleeping peacefully in his bed that day. His parents woke him up around noon and greeted him with kisses and hugs.

"Happy birthday honey!" his mom said kissing his cheek constantly and he tried to move her face away with his hands, but be gentle at the same time.

"Come on sugar, you don't want to miss on those presents, do you?" his dad said and boy jumped out of bed exited.

They walked down the stairs and he spotted a lot of wrapped gifts on the floor in living room and on the coffee table too. He jumped again from excitement and was about to approach the gifts when his dad's hand stopped him.

"Breakfast first, sweetheart." he said and Matt let out a sigh, but run to kitchen anyway.

His dad set him on a tall chair in their open kitchen. He kicked his leg in excitement as he waited for breakfast.

"So, are you done with your school work already?" he asked his son who just ignored the question, too concentrated on his eggs with bacon. The older man just smiled, letting him be this time, since it was his birthday.

After he was finally done eating he run up to gifts, holding his mom's hand the entire time.

She was giggling when he opened up each present, pure shock and happiness written on his face.

"Thank you mama!!" he gave her a kiss on a cheek and turned to his dad. "Thank you too daddy!" he hugged his legs as they all laughed.

For the rest of the day they played board games and for goodnight, they read a book together in Matt's room.

_______

See, Matt was homeschooled half of his life. His parents wanted to have him closer to them, they also wanted to protect him from bullies and other darkness of the world. But they realized it's not gonna work forever, so they signed him up to normal middle school.

Matt wasn't really pleased with that idea though. He preferred to stay home and learn what's really important, not what school system was forcing. But he didn't really get a word in that situation, his parents were really sweet people and they were spoiling him a little bit, but they could be stubborn when they had to. So he didn't have any choice and went.

_______

He stood in front of a mirror in his room, fixing his outfit once more. He was only 11 years old but he was really mature for his age. And he cared a lot about going to school. It was something completely new to him, he didn't like new things though, so it was even harder to him.
