It was a rainy evening. Matt was home alone as his parents went to grocery store.

He was reading a book on the couch when he heard a knock on a door. At first he thought his parents forgot the keys, so he lazily got up and opened the door.

He was suprised to meet two police officers.

"Um, good evening. Can I help you?" he asked looking between the two.

"Good evening. We- um-" the man officer looked at the woman unsure. Matt looked at them even more confused.

"I'm officer Suzie Buckley, and this is officer Mark Martin. We, yh, we have something to tell you um- do you mind if we walk inside?" the woman said and Matt just nodded letting them inside.

They sat on the couch in the living room and Matt brought glasses and water.

"Thank you young man. So ugh, it's about-" she looked at Matt with glassy eyes and he frowned. She took a deep breath and continued. "It's about your parents."

"Wha- what? What about my parents? They did something? T-they got in trouble?" he started to stress out.

"Your- your parents got into a car accident. A drunk teenager hit their car. No one made it alive, the speed and impact force were too high. Every-everyone died, your parents too. I'm so sorry." the woman tried to keep it together, shuttering sometimes. Matt looked in disbelieve.

"No, no you- No! You can't just walk to my and my parents house and tell me stuff like that! Why are you lying?!" he screamed thought tears. He knew it was true, that it wasn't a joke. But he didn't want to believe.

Soon he couldn't catch a breath anymore, screaming and sobbing corrupted the empty house. The lady tried to comfort him the best she could, listening and taking all the screaming, even though it wasn't her fault. It wasn't her fault some kid sat behind the wheel while being drunk, and that his parents probably didn't notice him in time.

"It's okay. It's going to be okay. Why won't you drive to the police station with us? We have psychologist in there, you can talk to her and-"

"No. I want to stay here." he whispered. A lady gave him a nod and caressed his back.

Her and some other police officers stayed in there for next 30 minutes at least, they took some things with them, like toothbrush to take DNA from it, to be 100% sure it was them.

Meanwhile Suzie comforted Matt, made him tea and talked with him about school and books, to keep his mind out of it just for a bit. And for a bit it worked. When they were leaving she gave him her private phone number in case he needed anything. It's not an everyday situation a kid's both parents suddenly die in an accident. He appreciated that, but he knew it won't change anything.

His world came to an end that evening. He would never recover, not from something like that. His parents were gone. His only sense of comfort, his only purpose. It was all gone with one unresponsible teenager who decided it was a great idea to drive drunk home.

He didn't only killed himself, he killed his friends and Matt's parents. He destroyed so many people's lifes.

_______

Matt buried his parents week later.

No kid should be doing such a thing. No kid should be planning their own parents funeral. Not at that age. He was only 16. And already an orphan.

He felt like he didn't have purpose anymore. Nothing made him happy anymore. Even if he didn't think about it, he thought about his future. He was overwhelmed with everything, but there was no one to comfort him this time.
