"Let me go!" Runa strained against the arms holding her back. Her eyes were fixed on her vampiric mistress, fighting against an entire pack of werewolves on her own.
"No!" A vampire holding her yelled. "Daki will be very upset!"
"She can't be upset if she's dead!" Runa argued. "I can help!"
A scream tore from Daki's throat, and Runa could barely watch as a wolf tore through her kimono into her stomach. Snow fell from her hair as she shook her head. "Let me go!"
Finally, Runa broke free, rushing towards the battle and sliding to a stop in front of Daki. The wolves all stopped and stepped to the side, allowing for a larger wolf to step through. The newcomer growled at Runa, but she growled back, harsher and louder. The wolf bared his teeth and snarled, fur bristling. Runa followed suit. Finally, the wolf turned and barked something at the pack, and they slunk off into the forest.
She turned to face Daki, bowing her head.
"I'm sorry, mistress." She said. "Are you alright?"
"I'm fine." She paused, and her tone became quieter. "Are you?"
Runa smiled at the ground. "I'm alright, mistress."
They stood in silence for a couple beats. "How did you..?" Daki trailed off.
Runa risked looking up to make eye contact. "I don't know.. instinct, I think."
Daki's eyes narrowed. "You're lying."
Runa's eyes widened, and she glanced anywhere but her mistress. "I'm not, I swear!"
Daki propped a hand up on her hip. "You know what happens when you lie, don't you?"
Runa looked down. "Yes, mistress.."
"Then tell me how you did that."
Runa looked into the vampire's green and red eyes. "I- I was raised by werewolves."
Daki raised an eyebrow. "Which one? That was the zeta of Crescent. I know for a fact no normal werewolf can do that."
"An alpha." Runa answered evasively.
"Don't avoid the question." Daki scowled. "Alpha of which pack?"
"Blood moon.." Runa's voice was barely a whisper. Daki's eyes widened slightly. The Blood Moon pack was the worst pack for vampires. Running into Blood Moon pack member was basically a death sentence, even an Omega.
Runa read her silence as disappointment and anger. She stared at her feet. "I'm sorry for lying.."
"It's alright." Runa looked up in shock at Daki's words. "You did save me, after all." Runa smiled slightly. She knew it must've taken all her mistress's roller to say that, given her pride and large ego.
"Thank you, mistress." Runa smiled. "Do you need anything as of right now?"
"No." She waved her hand dismissively, then seemingly changed her mind. "Well, actually, I need to make up for the blood I lost." She looked at Runa expectantly.
Runa's smiled only grew as she tilted her head, exposing her neck. "Of course, mistress."
