Ja Morant

"Are you ever going to get out of bed?" Brook asks.

Snatching the covers off my head, I glanced over at Brook seeing that she was standing in the doorway looking completely and utterly irritated. She had been irritated with me for the past week because she couldn't get me out of my slump since my break up with Autumn. Granted, it had only been two weeks, but it felt like two months.

Brook had tried everything to lift my spirits, but none of her tactics worked. She cooked for me, but I declined because I "wasn't hungry" when I knew it wouldn't taste anything like Autumn's cooking.

She offered to give me a massage, but I declined once again because I knew it wouldn't feel as good as it would if Autumn was doing it. She had even gotten as determined to take me to a hotel, decked in decorations, a bed full of gifts, a bathtub full of roses, and a plate full of chocolate-covered strawberries.

Sure, I stayed the night, but I didn't indulge in the rose petal-filled bath nor did I have one chocolate-covered strawberry. Hell, I even turned down sex with her.

That's how bad it was.

Usually, I was able to move on after getting out of something with a female, but moving on from Autumn seemed like something that I just couldn't and wouldn't be able to do any time soon.

But that wasn't the only thing that was getting under my skin and not settling right with me in my spirit. The other thing was now that Autumn and I were broken up, Nic was probably making his move on her right now.

And she was probably allowing it...

"You know," Brook says, walking to me and snatching the covers off me. "You swore to me that you had lost feelings for her, which is why you wanted to come see me. So, I don't understand why you're acting like your goddamn dog just died—."

"I was gonna propose," I blurted out. "You were a weak point, sure. You know that and you always manage to get in the way!"

Brook frowned. "You get in your own way, Ja," she snapped. "You didn't have to answer my text that day! You could've stopped wasting my time and proposed to Little Miss Perfect, but deep down, I know that you wouldn't be able to go through with it."

"And what makes you think that?" I scowled.

"Because I know you," she says crossing her arms. "I know that deep down, you were and still are jealous."

I frowned, glaring at Brook. She was hitting a little too close to home and she knew it. That's why she was saying all of these things now, plus she was the only person who knew how I really felt when it came down to Autumn, which was why she was throwing it in my face.

She knew it would hurt me.

Brook had never been the one to hurt anyone on purpose, but at this moment, because I was hurting her, she was making sure that she was hitting me where it hurt–and she was doing a damn good job at it.

"You know that you've always been jealous about Autumn's success and wondered how in the world she's managed to get more attention than you," she continues. "That you've gone from Ja Morant to Autumn Benet's boyfriend. On top of that, you heard about Autumn the minute she gained recognition from her debut in Fashion Week three years ago, and you tried your hardest to make your move, but failed because Nic had already made his move—."
