(Dan's POV)

I smile widely, and without thinking, I jump over and hug Phil tightly. He makes a small 'umph' noise at the impact but hugs me back anyways. I can feel his warm breath against me and it gives me shivers. He pulls away first, smiling just as much as I am.

"So I take that as a yes then?" Phil asks teasingly and I nod my head excitedly. He stands up again, pulling the covers back up over me, and kissing my nose sweetly. I blush at the gesture, snuggling into the soft bed as he walks out, turning off the light but keeping the door open.

It doesn't take me long to fall asleep, as I have happy thoughts of what my new life will be like.

[The next morning]

The first thing I felt when I woke up was a bed underneath me. I kept my eyes closed, confused. It took me a second to remember what had happened yesterday. I smiled, sitting up and stretching. The clock on the bedside table read 8:43am. It had to be incredibly late when I went to bed last night.

I got out of bed, stretching one last time, and thinking about when I was younger. I always woke up early, no matter how little sleep I had gotten. I sauntered slowly over to the window, looking out over everything. Today felt new and magical, as corny as it sounds.

My ears automatically perk up as I suddenly hear a noise coming from what I assume is Phil's room. I bound quickly out of the bedroom, and listen closely through the door of his, putting my ear up to the door to hear as clearly as possible. Some might think that this is a rude thing to do, but I can't help it. I've always been too curious for my own good.

I hear another noise, and what sounds like a yawn. After a few moments I knock quietly on the door, and after a minute of shuffling noises, I hear a half-groggy sounding "Come in."

I open the door, walking inside, greeted by a shirtless Phil, wearing a pair of glasses, and smiling up at me.

"Good morning." He says, patting the space on the bed next to him, hinting for me to sit down with him. I oblige, sitting with my legs crossed. He reaches over, petting me between my ears. I melt slightly under his touch, purring as he continues, my eyes closed.

"How did you sleep then? Where you comfortable enough in there?" Phil inquires, moving to scratch my ears as he speaks. I nod distractedly, nuzzling his hand, too caught up in the petting to pay proper attention to what he was saying.

He chuckles, wrapping his arms around my waist and pulling me towards him. I end up on top of him, resting my head onto this chest, listening to the sound of his heartbeat. My tail swishes slowly above us, and I notice Phil has drifted back to sleep. I raise my head up, staring at him as I thought.

'It's incredible how easily I trusted him' my thoughts flowing as as I gaze at the older man's features, spacing out. 'He seems caring enough. I hope he doesn't turn out as bad as....she was..." I shake my head, refusing to think about the past right now. I lay my head back down onto Phil's chest, being comforted by his closeness.

About an hour later I feel Phil stir underneath me. I raise up, looking at him. His eyes open fully and he smiles when he sees me. I giggle, resting my chin back down onto his chest, continuing to look up at him.

"Good Morning, sleepy." I say in a teasing tone. He just stuck his tongue out, tightening his grip around my waist, and rolling over, bringing me with him. After stretching a bit he sits up, propping himself up on his elbows.

"Were you waiting for me to wake up?" he asked, getting out of bed and pulling on a tee shirt. I just shrugged, jumping up and standing next to him. Together we walked into the lounge, and Phil turned on the TV.

He sat down onto the couch and I took my place on the floor next to his feet. I sense Phil looking at me. Glancing up, I see him with a confused expression. I tilt my head to the side, silently asking what he was thinking.

"Why are you on the floor Dan?" He asked, sounding as if it was the strangest thing in the world. I crinkle my brow, confused by what he meant.

"I thought I wasn't allowed to be on the couch. That's the way it was before at least" I explain, even more confused when Phil starts snickering,

"Dan, isn't like before. Of coursed you're allowed on the couch, we couldn't cuddle if you weren't" Phil replied, picking me up and setting me next to him. I think for a second then look up at him.

"I don't know your rules yet." I state, looking up at him expectantly. I watch as he takes a moment, chewing his lip and thinking.

"Ok Dan, well I suppose there are only a few rules you have to remember. Rule 1: You have to ask permission if you want to do something new. If I'm not here then you wait. Rule 2: Bad behaviour will be punished and good behaviour will be rewarded. Rule 3: I am the only one allowed to discipline you. Rule 4: You can call me whatever you wish as long as it's nothing negative. And Rule 5: You have to stay with me. No running away or scurrying off anywhere. Sound simple enough Daniel?" Phil looks down at me, waiting for me to respond.

After a moment's consideration, I nod once, wrapping my arms around Phil's waist, snuggling closer into him. I sigh contently, watching random programs, being comforted by Phil's pleasant scent. I didn't care to much about what was playing. I made myself busy by playing with the fabric at the edge of Phil's shirt, happy to finally feel wanted.
