"Are you alright Ma'am? Are you hurt anywhere?"

Sohail was comforting the fear stricken lady while Abhimanyu scanned the surroundings for threats.

"Ma'am do you want some water? What happened here Ma'am?" Sohail kept questioning, looking at his friend who shook his head.

"All looks clear Sohail. No imminent threat in vicinity."

The boys turned to the lady, observing her carefully; her look was not dishevelled as such but she was panting frantically.

"Ma'am please take some deep breaths" Abhimanyu said, kneeling before her, picking up the end of her dupatta which had fallen on the ground. It was scarlet red silk with tiny floral embroidery, and looked expensive. He handed it over to her gently and continued speaking.

"Please try to calm yourself Ma'am, you are safe here. Look at me, look at my friend there. I am Abhimanyu and he is Sohail. We are from the Indian Army. You are safe with us."

A moment of silence elapsed. The unblemished hands that had been fearfully hiding much of her face came down at last. Sohail and Abhimanyu exhaled in relief whilst a waft of cold night breeze brushed against the minorly tousled locks of hair against the young woman's face.

"I..." she stuttered.

"Yes Ma'am, relax, you can tell us what scared you. Do you want to sit Ma'am?" Abhimanyu said in the gentlest voice he could muster, still kneeling in front of her. He tried to maintain a reassuring eye contact with her.

He could sense Sohail still alertly scanning the surroundings, so he had to now keep her calm. He looked up at her, he couldn't see too clearly in the dark but she seemed to have a wheatish complexion with doe like eyes that were darting everywhere.

"Ma'am you can relax. What is your name?" He tried again, sharing a quick glance with Sohail who looked as worried as him.

"I...I saw two mice, Sir."

Abhimanyu blinked. Sohail gaped.
