A new day began with the sun casting a warm glow across the sky. Birds chirped happily, and the air felt fresh and comfortable.
Shubman tossed himself around the bed as Ishan woke up startled, Shubman was mumbling incoherent words and the latter tried his best to understand.
"It's really cold baby, Please keep me close to you. I don't like feeling cold. Please keep me warm," Shubman said as he felt chills all over his body.
Ishan took him closer only to feel Shubman burning with a high fever, Ishan was confused about how Shubman said he felt chills.
"Shub, you're running a high fever. You need to get yourself checked in the hospital. I'll check for an appointment," Ishan says worried about Shubman's health.
Shubman, anticipating this moment, knew the progression of his illness. The doctor had outlined the symptoms and the impact on his daily life. While there was some hope in the third stage, chemotherapy offered a temporary reprieve.
However, there was one secret Shubman held close — the medications he took to manage his condition. He felt the need to keep this information hidden from Ishan, not wanting to burden him with the harsh reality of his limited time.
"No Ishu, Please. It's just a fever. It'll go away." Shubman said rubbing his eyes and pleading.
'Ishan, Control. The man in front of you has a fever and is burning.' The latter had thought.
"But he's hot as hell," Ishan said.
'This is embarrassing, did I just say that aloud?'
But the worst part was Ishan finding his best friend amusingly hot and adorable when he was sick, Not that Ishan didn't adore Shubman normally but he liked a sick Shubman a little more.
He liked every shubman a little more.
"Ishan, You're calling someone else hot in front of your significant other? I'm not accepting this behaviour," Shubman mastered this, diverting the conversation.
"WE ARE GOING TO THE HOSPITAL RIGHT NOW," Ishan shouted blushing at the teasing remark.
"Please, You promised you would do anything I say for the next 30 days,"
"What's the reason I should do this Shubi, What are you hiding from me? What is it that I've done that you're scared to reveal your big secrets?" Ishan says sighing deeply feeling nothing but guilt, pain and regret for something that he was unsure of.
"Ishu, it's not about you. It's about me and something I've been dealing with. I didn't want to burden you with it, especially when you've been so happy. I wanted these days to be about us."
"Is that what we are, Since when did we burden each other? I never feel burdened by you. It pains me that you could even think of me like that."
"No, Ish. It's not-"
"How is this all about you? Don't you think I'm hurting? Do you think it's only you who's suffering with pain?" Ishan let it out already sobbing quietly.
"What do you mean?" Shubman asks now with a furrowed look.
"I know, I know everything," Ishan confessed.
