"Official Shelly, finally you return to us," said the man through the walkie.
"Now I can't even get gas? People nowadays, I swear..." She chuckled back.
"People usually don't take that long, Shelly. Anywho, we located our primary suspect, and you're our closest officer." He started.
Of course she was wrong and that day wasn't destined to rest at all.
She drove to the indicated location for her to recognize someone familiar in the entrance.
Because Luis was still walking home, as he lived relatively close to the gym and didn't want to take the car.
Vanessa closely followed him with the cruiser, stopping once he got home, all of that without him noticing her there.
She left the vehicle in the drive way and knocked the door politely with a clipboard and a pen in hands. "Coming," she heard from the inside.
Luis hadn't still left the swimming bag, it hung in his arm when Vanessa looked at it. His eyes widely opened at her sight. "Is there anything wrong, offic-?"
"May I please come in?" She quickly interrupted him.
He scratched his head. "Oh, well, the place is a mess, and-"
"I got that one before, smart pants." She crossed her arms. "And we both know that wasn't a question."
He sighed and moved to the side to let her walk in. He closed the door and turned to face her.
"Officer Shelly." She extended her hand for him to take her, which he did. "There has been a report, and I don't have all the time in the world, so let's make it quick. You have 15 seconds to explain what's in that bag," as she pointed at it, he realized he should've had left it elsewhere.
"Oh, you see, the bag isn't mine-" seriously, she wouldn't let him finish a sentence.
"I know it's not yours." She pulled out her pocket the camera she used earlier that day. "Is it this girl's?"
He couldn't believe his eyes as seeing pictures of you taken from the distance. He wanted to believe you were making things up, but you truly weren't. "It is."
She saved the camera back in her jacket. "Well, if you don't explain to me what's in there and why she gave it to you, I'll accuse you of robbery."
"I forgot my swimming bag, she noticed and brought it to me." He lied, but it wasn't that obvious.
"Is she your sister?" She inquired out of the blue.
You left him questioning. "Uh, n-no."
"Is she your girlfriend, then?" That time she asked it more aggressively.
He shook his head frantically. "What? No, no of course not."
She crossed her arms. "And you also don't live with her, so how did she notice you forgot your bag?"
"She just did." He lied once more.
"Right." She sighed. "May I see what's in the bag?"
"Just a swimming suit and goggles." He quickly responded.
"I didn't ask you what's in the bag, I asked you to see what's inside." She took her hands to her knees.
He was running out of options. "Look, if you leave me out of this, I'll give you her phone number," he whispered.
"Are you seriously trying to bribe a police officer?" That left him petrified, but she suddenly turned her walkie talkie off. She handed him her clipboard, where she had been scribbling down things. "Write it down, if you answer some questions I'll let you go, but not a word about this. Remember, it's my word against yours, is that clear?"
"Yes ma'am!" Luis rapidly replied. He took the clipboard and clicked the pen.
"What does she work as?" Bold question, that was practically the only thing she didn't know about you.
"She's my- I mean." He shook his head. "She's a college student, she doesn't have a job."
"And where does she get the money from, then?" She inquired, not fully believing what she was hearing.
"Her parents pay it for her, I guess." He gave her back the clipboard.
"Is she single? I mean, because maybe her partner is paying it for her." Of course that was the reason she was asking.
"She's completely single, and even if she had a partner, I don't think they'd pay it. It's too expensive nowadays." He also returned the pen.
She turned back on the walkie. "After checking the bag I can guarantee there has been a misunderstanding. I hope I haven't made you lose to much time." She stood up. "Have a nice day, Mr. ..."
"Guitérrez," he finished for her and extended his hand.
"Right, Guitérrez. I guess I'll see you around. Or maybe not. Who knows." She shook his hand and walked out.
"Weirdo..." Luis called out once Vanessa was out of sight.
