As another long, frustrating, and stressful day of school allows itself into George's life. He has a feeling that this one will be different, though, that's how it always felt. He would let himself get his hopes up, thinking it was going to be better. That something would change his life, and make it more bearable. But, that just wasn't the case.
However, he let himself do it anyway, get his hopes up, and make himself believe getting up for; yet another horrible day was worth it. All he could wish for was something new, that wasn't bad, like it always was. He wasn't going to let himself give up yet, not yet. It was too soon, but still felt too late, too long.
Could the world, and the people give him a chance for once? One that would make him change his mind about everything, or anything. He was so close to giving into the thoughts that would make themselves comfortable in the back of his mind. The ones that told him to just give up, let his life go, crumble into nothing but bones and dirt.
If only the people, all the others his age, younger and older. Could stop the words that would fall off their tongues. The words that were the voices in his mind, the back of his head. That refused to leave, let themselves go from what supposably made them happy, and content with their own lives. Why were they telling him to leave this world, when they couldn't even leave him alone for a day?
But that wasn't what mattered, not right now at least. As his phone buzzed with a message from his friend, Karl. Asking him to meet him at his place before school. With that, George found a reason to continue on with this day. Finishing getting ready, and rushing out of his house to see one of his best friends.
The air was cold, freezing, as George forgot to grab his coat before he left. But, it was too late to go back now. He had to practically tip-toe out of the house, in hopes to not wake up his parents. So, he was left in a thin long sleeved sweater. That didn't do much to protect his skin from the frosty wind that bit at him harshly. Making his knuckles, cheeks, and ears turn a bright pink. Leaving his limbs, and his head numb and in a pain he wished he didn't have to endure.
He just pushed through, not wanting to make Karl wait too long. Even though he could barely bring himself to move his legs, and it didn't help that the sidewalk was covered in snow, a foot deep as he assumed, just by looking at it. His feet numb enough that he couldn't feel them. Oh, what winter did to you.
It's not that he hated winter, and snow. He just simply preferred fall and spring. When it wasn't too hot, but it wasn't too cold. There was no worries about getting too hot, and overheating when he couldn't do anything about it. No worries about there being too much snow, where he couldn't walk through it, and not at all move from the numbness that took over him.
It was just less problematic, and easier in general. For him and everyone. But, he wouldn't have to worry about the snow for much longer, as he finally found himself in front of Karl's door. Slowly bringing his hand into a fist, and knocking lightly on the hardwood in front of him.
"George!" Karl said as he swung the door open, wrapping his arms around George immediately. "Geez, you're so cold," he murmured, tugging George inside. "Why didn't you wear a coat?"
"It didn't really come to mind, and I was more focused on getting to yours." George answered plainly, settling his hands under his armpits, in hopes to bring some warmth back to them.
"But- nevermind, you can borrow one of mine," Karl said, going up to his room and making George follow behind him carefully. Since the stairs were thin, and steep. Almost being a hazard for those who walked up and down them. Perks of a cheap, and poorly made house. But, Karl and his family decorated and re-did the home pretty well. Making it not seem as inexpensive as it really was when they bought it.
