Sapnap's heart rate was through the roof. He skipped streaming tonight, impatient for the call from the animal shelter to let him know his application had been approved.
Once the call finally came through, he wanted to jump around. He thanked the shelter owner as he hung up, ecstatic, rushing to tell Dream the news.
This was it. He was going to bring Milo home. He wanted to cry with how happy he felt.
He promised Dream and George he'd be back soon, clambering into his car. Typing in the directions for the shelter on his phone, Sapnap set up a playlist that wouldn't scare Milo too much when he got him.
It was noisy in the shelter, dogs barking and random children squealing. Sapnap sat by the front desk bouncing his leg.
But after what seemed like forever, a volunteer came out of the cat room, a tiny kitten cradled in their arms. They smiled at Sapnap, checking with the person at the front desk that he was the right guy. The volunteer smiled again, bringing the kitten over to Sapnap and placing it down in his arms.
"I'm so sorry he's not the Bengal you had wanted. Any we've had ended up getting adopted surprisingly fast."
Sapnap stared down at Milo. He was a beautiful tabby, his coat as close to a Bengal's as it could be.
"Oh no, that's totally fine. I think he's perfect. Looks like my roommate's cat."
"Oh, that's wonderful! I hope they will get along, then."
"Yeah, me too. She's skittish but likes being around people. So hopefully she's the same to Milo."
"Mhm. We'll need you to sign just a couple things, then he's all yours!"
"Great, thank you so much."
Sapnap set Milo in his hoodie pocket, a warm spot to keep him as the paperwork was being signed. Then it was all done. Milo was officially, legally, his.
He returned to his car, Milo asleep in his pocket. The volunteer warned him that he had just eaten, so Sapnap hoped that Milo would be able to make it home without any accidents.
Milo only moved around a few times on the way home, deep in some dream. Not one song on the playlist seemed to bother him. It was a relief knowing Milo was calm. It made Sapnap think it'd be easier to get him to like cuddling.
Sapnap was extra careful not to wake him. The only thing to disturb him was the front door being shoved open. He stretched his front paws out of the pocket, squinting against the bright lights.
Patches was sitting at the bottom of the stairs, eyes wide and frightened.
"Patches! Look it, I got you a friend!" Patches sniffed the air, nose stuck high and eyes unsure. She darted up the steps, away from the unfamiliar smell. "Hey!"
"Sapnap?" George called. He was standing at the top of the staircase right where Patches had sped by. Sapnap looked up to meet his gaze. For someone that complained about being cold all the time, he really didn't cover that much skin. Wait.
"Are those my shorts?" George shrugged.
"They're comfy. And you took my blanket so it's fair game, freak."
"That's a blanket. Now I'm gonna have your ball sweat all over my shorts," Sapnap whined. It made George laugh. He was so pretty when he laughed.
"You can wash them." A short pause. "Milo? Did you- Did you get him?"
"Yeah, he's- He's here, George." He motioned for George to follow him to the couch. He gently pulled Milo out of his pocket as he sat down.
George sat down next to him tentatively, watching as Milo slinked across the cushion towards him. His eyes began to water.
"He's so pretty. So handsome."
"Handsome? What about me?"
"Mm. You're alright, I suppose." Sapnap scoffs.
"Okay, George." They sat in silence as Milo scaled George to perch on his shoulder. "Is Dream still in his room?"
"He's in his office. I think he's streaming parkour."
"Oh. Okay.." Sapnap was confused. Didn't Dream want to meet Milo? But he stopped himself from messaging Dream, not wanting to possibly interrupt a good run.
And... Albeit a little selfish, Sapnap was kind of glad to have this alone time with George. While Sapnap loves Dream, absolutely adores him, he thought it better to conquer one heart at a time.
George's eyes were on him.
"What?"
"Huh?
"You're staring." His face bloomed a bright red.
"It's just- It's weird."
"What's weird?"
"You're- You're, like, a dad now, Sapnap. Hah, Dadnap."
"Yeah," Sapnap concluded. "I guess I am." He stared at George, the love in his heart becoming almost unbearable.
Please want me back.
I swear I'll cross post this on ao3, but school's been kicking my ass recently and I just don't have the motivation to figure out the tags right now. 😔 We'll get there soon™, hopefully.
Praying there's no errors 'cause I don't have a beta reader...
