Elowen's eyes fluttered open to the gentle light seeping through her curtains. The rhythmic hum of the city outside signaled the beginning of another day. With a resigned sigh, she reluctantly cast aside the warmth of her bed, grappling with the lingering tendrils of a dream now fading into the recesses of her mind.

The clock on her bedside table blinked insistently, its numbers displaying the unwelcome truth: the world awaited her presence. As she moved through the familiar motions of getting ready for the day, Elowen couldn't shake the feeling that today, like every other day, would be defined by the predictable ebb and flow of routine.

Down the stairs, she quickly ate her breakfast, glancing at her phone's time—5:10. A message from a classmate popped up, a familiar inquiry about a project. Elowen, while eager to help, sighed at the repetitive questions. She sent the file, switched off her phone, and focused on her breakfast.

Her Uncle Dovian, leaning against the kitchen doorway, observed her morning routine with a knowing smile. "Elowen, you're up early again. Sleepless nights working on that project, huh?"

Elowen chuckled, "Yeah, Uncle. The deadline is today. Just the usual chaos."

Dovian nodded, "Well, take care of yourself. Don't burn out, okay?"

Already dreading the day, she wished she could enjoy the luxury of sleeping in like her younger sibling. Her school, however, wasn't one to cancel for festivals, a downside of private institutions, Elowen thought. After checking her belongings, she called for her Uncle.

"Going already, Elowen?" Dovian said, adjusting his cap.

Elowen nodded, "Yeah, Uncle. It's just another school day. I'll be back around late afternoon."

"Worried about the project?"

"Yeah, and the usual school drama," Elowen chuckled.

Dovian ruffled her hair, "Take care, Elowen. You're strong, but don't forget to enjoy life too."

Walking the side streets of her neighborhood lacking safe sidewalks, she admired the quiet atmosphere and the cold wind. Looking up at the sky, the twilight dusk painted a serene backdrop. Elowen loved this mundane routine; despite its tiring repetition, she embraced the simplicity, having learned from a book about the importance of enjoying the present.

Arriving at the bus stop, Elowen sighed in relief—the line was short. 'Seems I woke up a bit early,' she mused. The bus ride to school would take approximately 20 minutes without morning traffic, but today, she had time to spare. Entering the bus, she paid the driver, found a seat, and watched the scenery shift from quiet neighborhoods to a bustling city. The time read 6:15, and Elowen, after an all-nighter on a project due today, allowed herself a brief nap.

A beep signaled the bus to a stop; opening her eyes, Elowen got off and walked towards her school. A 15-minute walk, but today, she didn't mind. The morning sun gradually rose, casting a golden light on the sidewalk. As she approached the school gate, a sudden feeling of dread and anxiety gripped her, dismissed as just another normal feeling.

The morning sun cast a warm glow over the school courtyard as Elowen navigated through the familiar throng of students. The chatter of classmates, the hurried footsteps, and the occasional laughter created a symphony of routine. Unbeknownst to her, this ordinary day held a secret—the calm before an impending storm.

Entering her first class, Elowen exchanged smiles and casual greetings with her classmates. The teacher, Ms. Rodriguez, engrossed in the day's lesson plan, didn't seem to notice the subtle tension that lingered in the air.

"Elowen, did you catch that documentary on culinary traditions last night?" Alyssa whispered, leaning over from the desk behind her.

Elowen grinned, "Yeah, it was fascinating! I never knew how diverse food cultures could be."
