Raine found herself panicking as she struggled to determine if she had indeed opened her eyes. She could have sworn only a moment ago that she had, now though with the pounding and cloudiness happening in her brain. She could no longer be sure of anything. That is except for the utter darkness that surrounded her and the coldness of what she was sure was concrete underneath of her. Wherever she had found herself had a damp earthy smell that hung in the air. Like she had been buried alive if it wasn't for the plentiful amount of oxygen she anxiously used to fill her lung she would have thought she was.
Raine tried desperately to get her mind to stop racing to focus only on where she was and how she could escape. It was no use though whatever drug had been used to incapacitate her had completely destroyed her ability for rational thought at least temporarily. She tried to stand but found herself weighed down by heavy chains around her wrist and ankles.
Raine had felt trapped her whole life but never like this she felt like a rat in a trap. As if all of her wishing for an escape had now led her to this prison like it was of her own making. Raine tried to push these thoughts out of her mind as the tiers soaked her face, finding herself unable to. The air she had filled her lungs with leaving them like a deflating balloon.
As the world spun around Raine clung desperately to reality whatever that now was. Raine suddenly heard voices, one that sounded like it was coming from a very small child. Throwing Raine even more off balance because wherever she was she had never thought it was a home. Maybe it was her limited perspective of where she was though that led her to have this narrow belief.
A creaking sound shattered Raine’s thoughts as a light blinded Raine's unsteady eyes. She couldn't make out the features of the shadow she was sure was a man coming downstairs. She could tell however that he was smiling an unsettling smile. One that made Raine's blood and the hair on her arms stand on edge. His voice flooded her senses with “Good morning firefly”...
