Torn Between Two Friends

CHAPTER 6 (SIX)

Over the next few weeks, Sayo and Bamiro have made a routine of meeting on Fridays at Sayo’s house and Bamiro will leave on Saturday in the evening. They have also succeeded in keeping the relationship from their friends. However, Funmike knows her husband very well so she already knew they were dating even though Bamiro did not tell her anything. 

The bond between Bamiro and Sayo has grown so much that Sayo is already seeing herself as the second wife of Bamiro. For someone who frowns against being entangled with a married man, she has been so immersed herself in the relationship more than she could ever imagine. Even though Bamiro has not outrightly told Sayo that he wants to marry her, all his gestures and actions indicate that. After all, action speaks louder than words. 

One Saturday after Bamiro left Sayo’s place, she decided to rearrange her kitchen but her phone rang before she could stand up. It was a strange number and she did not want to pick up the call. However, after remembering that a potential customer told her they would reach out to her, she decided to pick up in case it was the customer calling. 

"Hello", she said after picking up the call

"Hello, please, am I unto Folasayo?" The caller asked

"Yes, this is she"

"Oh, okay. This is Funmike, Bamiro's wife." Sayo's mind flew out of her body. The thought running through her mind is that Funmike knows about she and Bamiro and she called to threaten her. 

"Are you still there?" Funmike asked.

"Yes, I am, good evening ma'am," she replied.

"Oh, I told you to stop all the ma'am stuff, you are my husband's friend so that automatically makes us friends".  Oh, she didn't know about us, sayo thought to herself. 

"Okay, I'm sorry, good evening Funmike"

"Good evening, how are you?" She asked.

"I am fine… you?"

"I'm fine too. How is work going? Hope it's not too stressful. Bamiro told me that you are a salesperson at Stonekey Bank."

"Work is not stressful. Thanks for asking."

"Good, so I'm sure you know Bamiro's birthday is coming up in the next few weeks. He told me he does not want a party and I'm sure he told you that too. So, I would like us to work together to know what exactly he wants for his birthday, so…."

Shey this woman is trying to test me ni, Sayo thought to herself. 

"I'm sorry to cut you short, sayo cuts in but you are his wife so you should be able to get what your husband wants for his birthday out of him."

"I understand you perfectly but you are also important to him. I just want us to surprise him on all sides. We will work with whatever he tells you and whatever he tells me as well. He deserves the best, don't you think so" Funmike asked.

"Yes, he does" Sayo replied gently smiling to herself.

After series of back and forth, they both agree to ask him. Funmike told Sayo that the call should remain between both of them so it would be a perfect surprise for Bamiro. After dropping the call sayo contemplates whether she should tell Bamiro about the call or not. She later decided not to tell him.
