Suddenly everything shaking woke her up. She quickly sat up causing her to sway and fall off the bed. She laid there until everything stopped moving. Before she could process what just happened an explosion could be heard that shook the entire building again. However it didn’t last long so she got up and opened her door. She took a step outside and looked around. She smelt smoke and things bruning. She ran over to the stairs and looked down. The first floor from what she could see was on fire. Soldiers clearly from the Fire clan were fighting the Earth clan’s soldier’s. One of the knights ran up the stairs to her.
“Go back your majesty!” She did as he said and ran back, coughing from the smoke. She see’s Odin step out of his room. “We’re under attack!” She exclaimed. Next thing she knew a blast of fire was heading towards them. Odin ducked back into his room and Briar dropped down onto the floor. Her hair singed, the normal white getting a dark tint. She looked and it was the queen of the fire clan. Her fiery hair and wings lit up the otherwise dark hallway. She raised her hand and Briar knew she was going to try again. She moved her arms protectively in her face, causing vines to create a wall in front of her.
It blocked the fire from hitting her, but it burned out quickly. With no one to protect her and not knowing how to defend herself, she ran. She ran through the hall's smoke filling her lungs. Her throat burned as she breathed through her mouth. While one would think fear would be the main emotion she’s feeling, it’s confusion. Ava quickly untied the rope she used to climb to the second floor. She just had to make sure Briar was okay. She then heard hard and heavy footsteps, as she opened the door to the room she was in she saw a bit of green fabric turn the corner. Then next thing she knew the queen was following suit after the person. She has seen that green fabric before, It was Briar. She bolted after the two. As Briar turned the corner she hit a dead end. She ran to the door at the end and pulled and pulled on the handle. But no matter what she did it didn’t budge. She looked back behind her to see the queen walking towards her as she had no reason to rush anymore.
“Why are you doing this?” She asked, her rapid heartbeat pounding in her head. She scoffed. “Playing dumb will get you nowhere.” She then held her arms over her head and a ball of magical fire started to form. It looked just like a fireball but with sparks of purple. “NO!” Ava then stabbed her from behind with her sword, making her release the ball towards the ceiling. She tried to hit Ava but she dodged and ran towards Briar. “Ava!” The queen saw the effect her magic had on the building and left quickly. A support beam from the ceiling was starting to fall and very quickly the whole room set on fire.
“We have to get out of here!” Ava quickly looked around the room. She grabbed her hand and ran to the window like hole in the wall. “Fuck.” Jumping would be extremely risky because of the height. She then had to think very quickly if Briar could fly well enough to stop her fall. Because the hole is too small for her wings to fit through. So she would have to have them retracted, release them mid fall and at least glide to the ground. She heard a very loud crack. She looked up and the main support beam for the ceiling was about to fall. “Listen to me, you have to jump and use your wings to break your fall.” She said. “But Ava what about-” Then Ava shoved her to the opening. “NOW!” Briar gasped and then she was shoved out the window. And right after she was shoved the beam fell and the room started to collapse. She released her wings and the wind created resistance and she fell only hard enough to leave a bone bruise. But she didn’t care about that. “AVAAAA!!!” She cried out so hard she grabbed her throat in pain after. She flew right back up but all she could see was fire and rubble. She hoped she got out, but even if she did, what about the fire? She glided back down to the floor, tears falling down.
Determined to find her she began to dig through the rubble, but her magic created vines around everything. “No stop it!” She yelled at the vines. She knew she couldn’t control her magic right now so she dug faster and faster.
Two hours had passed. The sun was starting to rise. All this time she was digging. Her nails were broken deep into the quick. Dirt and rubble getting in causing intense irritation. Dried blood coated all of her fingers. She heard her name being called by multiple people. She was so focused on digging, she didn’t even notice the fire clan retreated. She walked over to the edge and walked off, Odin catching her and getting her to the ground safely as her wings were deflated. King Darwin was there running towards her. “Oh Briar, thank Ambrosia you're safe!”
