The Spoby Diaries

"Toby, stop!" I laughed as he kissed my neck as I studied.

"Come on it's beautiful outside and we are here studying", Toby said with a laugh.

I leant over and gave him a peck on the cheek as I got up and reached for my leather handbag.

"Let's go to the lake then", I said pulling him to his feet.

The car ride was quiet but peaceful. It was just us two hand in hand driving towards my lake house. As we pulled into the drive way Toby sighed and turned off the engine pulling out the key forcefully.

"Is something wrong?" I asked worried

"No I'm fine, I'll meet you in the water I just need to go to the toilet" He said quickly.

I watched him slide reluctantly out of the car. I walked down the slope towards the water kicking up sand as I went. As my feet touched the water I stretched waiting for him to come out the wooden front door. I started walking back up to the house getting impatient.

"Toby, what are you doing?" I asked knocking on the bathroom door.

The door slowly creaked open to reveal an empty bathroom.

Turning around on my heels I jogged outside to find the truck had disappeared.

I sprinted back into the house calling Toby's name.

"Toby I'm not joking this isn't funny anymore please stop!" I yelled

I reached into my handbag fumbling around for my phone. I started calling Toby's number as I got a new message.

Don't say you miss him when it's your fault he is gone -A

I collapsed to my knees sobbing.

I sat there on Emily's soft window seat with the spring breeze coming through the open window and a cup of tea in my hands.

"So what exactly happened?" Emily asked sitting down and looking at me with worry.

"I was waiting for Toby at the lake house and I walked inside to see if he was done in the toilet but he was gone" I sighed and put the tea on the desk.

"Are you sure he didn't have a emergency at work or with family?" Replied Emily almost looking unconvinced.

"Well he hasn't replied any of my texts or calls!" I exclaimed with frustration.

Emily sat there deep in thought intertwining her fingers through her black hair as I got up and stormed out of her bedroom as the tears started to fall.

At home I sat on the rocking chair Toby had carved for me rocking back and forth. The tears fell and my nose ran, I could taste the salty tears on my lips.

There was a knock on the door as Melissa stood in the doorway.

I wiped the tears away with the back of my hand and took a deep breath and said "I'm fine Melissa".

"Spencer please don't pretend when your not". She said as she walked across the room, sat on my bed and smoothed out the silk sheets.

"I just miss him and I'm really worried" I wailed, bursting into tears as I curled into a tight ball.

She stroked my hair and kissed my forehead with her warm lips and quietly whispered "I know Spence".

Melissa slowly got up and headed towards the door but stopped and turned around in the doorway.

"Besides he wasn't very honest anyway" She smiled and walked away.

I bolted up and my eyes were wide.

"MELISSA!" I shrieked running after her and almost slipping on the mat in the doorway. She was gone.

I sat there with my hands over my face and my loose brown hair falling all over me. My eyelashes were wet and mattered to my face as my mascara ran down my face leaving black streaks on my shirt. I felt lost, confused and angry. I just wanted Toby back and to feel his warm big arms around my body.

I turned on my phone texting Aria to see if we could go see a movie or just to get out of the house.

There was a reply instantly saying ok. I sat up wiping away my tears and I walked into my room to clean myself up.

All I could think about was Toby at the movies. I couldn't concentrate on anything and had any ready chewed my fingernails to nothing.

"Hey Spence, are you ok is something bothering you?" She would ask during the movie when she noticed I let out a sob.

"I'm fine don't worry about it" I would always reply trying my hardest to not start crying all over again. I had realised how many times I had said I'm fine when really I meant you wouldn't understand in that day.

After the movie I hoped into my brand new red SUV and drove in the pouring rain. The radio was on but playing nothing but depressing songs about break ups making me feel worse. My vision started to blur with tears so I pulled into a small restaurant and got out of the car and ran across the gravel parking lot.

There was a shining black motorbike just like what Toby used to have and I felt the warm tears stream down my face. Everything reminded me of him even the breeze brang back memories of having those picnics in spring on the lush green grass surrounded by trees.

I sat down at my favourite corner of the restaurant where you could see directly out the window. I ordered a coke and let the bubbly fizziness run down my throat and I could feel it rising in my nose. It felt great.

Suddenly I started to get dizzy. The red seats around the restaurant started to spin and blur and the people sounded like they were talking gibberish. There was someone staring at me from across the diner as I tried to focus on them my vision got blurrier and my head started to spin. I blacked out.

The next thing I remember was waking up and smelling pine cones. I was surrounded by trees and there was a blurring figure in front of me. As my eyes adjusted I could see clearly.

"Toby?" I asked touching his soft, cold cheek.

He held my hand there looking at me.

"Spencer it's not safe to keep looking for me you need to stop or she will hurt you!" She said almost upset.

I flinched at his voice.

"Who is she Toby! What are you talking about?" I responded suddenly waking right up.

"I'm talking about -A" He said impatiently looking around the area making sure no one was looking.

I sat straight up ignoring the throbbing in my head looking Toby in the eyes.

"Who is she!" I asked starting to feel a bit more woozy.

"I can't say but please Spencer we don't have much time until-" Toby suddenly stood up as a twig snapped. He started running into the woods.

"Toby wait!" I called softly feeling myself sink back into the Earth all over again.
