"what..?"
i stayed quiet and looked at him then i get up to grab the picture book. i flip the pages and i find one with my dad and gabriel

"that's my dad"
i point to a guy in a photo
"and that's my step dad"
i slide my finger to the other guy
"and that's.." i slide my finger once more
"my mom"
matt's face is still
"so your mom got together with a guy she knew for a long time after... what's wrong with that , i mean it kinda of weird"

i'm flipping pages and i see my dad and gabriel hanging out. then i see two kids...and one is my dad the other it gabriel...as two little kids. I'm flipping pages back and pulling out the pictures.

"matt my dad and him were best friends how can you just do that?"
i get up and walk out of my room with the pictures and i walk into my parents room. Gabriel is watching tv
"what's up kiddo?"
kiddo that's what he's called me since i was little
how is he so ok with this...?
"what's this?"
i throw the pictures at him
"oh these are-"
he picks up a picture and then his expression changes
he looked calm but now he has a serious face and he looks up
"we're did you get these"

"the attic i was looking for my stuff"
i say looking up at him
"put them back , we don't talk about these pictures"
he tosses one onto the bed
"what..no why??? i need to know that's not just any guys that's you and my dad"
my eyes tear up
"and we're is her now huh? how long has it been  since a he's came around?"

"what do you mean..?"
gabriel stands up
"oh what joke do you think this is?"
he grabs a beer and sits back down
"my dads dead gabriel.."
he looks up at me and his face turns white
"what , no he's in Cali with the rest of your family"
i hear the door open and i run to the living room with a picture in my hand

"what is this!"
i yell at my mom
she grabs the picture and slaps me
"we're the hell did you find these"
she says putting down her bag
i stayed quiet
"we'res dad huh?"
i say grabbing her arm as she tried to walk away
"is he really dead or are you playing some sick joke on me"
my eyes water again
"sit down serena"
she says as she puts her hair up and sits in front of me
"he's alive.."
she said softly looking down and fidgeting with her hands
"and he's in california, with you aunts and uncles... but he's also with your brother."
i look up
i've always wanted a brother but mom said she could never have another kid
"i have a brother..?"
i stand up
"sit down serena , i did it for your own good"
she looks up at me
and i sit back down crying now
"your dad doesn't care about how much money we had , as long as we had a roof and enough food he was fine but i wanted you to have more"
she smiled like she was trying to get pity from me
i stand up and i slap her
"and you just had to get with his best friend"
i said as i left upstairs
i walk into my room and matt was sitting there waiting for me
"i'm sorry i dragged you into this"
i sit down next to matt and i rest my head onto his shoulder
"matt this is a lot to ask but umm.. can i stay at your place tonight i'm sorry i jus-"
matt cuts me off
"not it's fine you can stay tonight or as long at you need"
he smiled
in a weird way he brings me comfort
"i'm gonna go down stairs and get some of my stuff"
i leave the room and my moms on call in the kitchen at she glances at me and then looks away
im grabbing my small things that i leave around the house that i need and as im walking back to the stairs she calls me
"what?"
i groan and turn to her
"there's a phone call for you"
she tried to smile but i wasn't gonna let her off the hook that easily i grab the phone and hold it to my ear.
"hello..?"
no response
"who is this??"
i say giving my mom a weird look but then i hear crying on the end of the phone
"hello are you ok??"
i turn to my mom but she's gone
then i see her walk to the front porch
"i missed you so much"
i hear a voice on the phone and it's my dad
he the starts facetime
i only see half of his face and it's red and he's crying but smiling then he pans the camera towards my brother who i don't remember much of , and he's so tall brown hair and...NO PIMPLES HEY HE GOT THE GOOD GENES.
"dad..?"
my voice is shaky and i starts to cry
"i missed you so much to"
i smile and cry as well
my dad says to get his phone number so we can catch up tomorrow but he has the late shift today so he can't call any longer , he also gives me my brothers number.
"wait! don't hang up yet!!"
i say running up stairs
i run into my room and i smile are matt and you can tell her already knows
"dad this is my friend matt!!"
i smile and matt and i are both in the camera
my dad smiles and wave as he leaves the room leaving me and my brother on call
"oh he seems nice"
matt smiles a little before a yell comes from the phone
it's my brother
"ARE YOU GUYS- DA-ING"
he glitches out but i can still see his face and he looks a bit mad
"YOUR GLITCHING OUT"
i yell at the phone and the call hangs up
"did you hang up?"
i asked matt
"no I think your dads phone died"
i laugh and take a pic of the number and as i'm going to take my moms phones back she's already at the doorway
"matt?"
she says a bit shocked
"are you guys um..?"
"NO"
we both yell and i hand her phone and shut the door
"ok i have all my stuff"
i say smiling
